I’ll be attending a business conference on Marco Island next week and my boss just decided he wanted me to set up a day of fishing for us (4 people). I’m looking to rent a boat and some guidance on where to go to have the best opportunity at catching something, anything. I’ll be bringing my fly rod but the others would have to rent equipment (spinning or casting gear) from the marina, is this possible? They are more interested in quantity rather than targeting any specific species. I’m thinking we should concentrate on the intercostal waters in the area rather than heading out to sea.
Any recommendations on areas to hit for the day?
Thanks in advance for any suggetions you can offer!
If you want to go out on a guided trip look up Capt. Mike, he runs Pro-Fish-In-Sea charters out of the Marco River Marina on the island. My families been fishing with him for close to 10 years now every time we go down there. I haven’t been in the fall but every other time of year he’s put us on plenty of fish to keep us happy and plenty of big ones too. We’ve never had a bad trip with him and even the slower ones still end up with double digits of fish for everyone on board. Better days can be well over 100 fish landed in a half day (4 hours). I don’t want to put too much pressure on him and guarantee a good trip but it always has been for us. No flyfishing with him, its pretty much all bait fishing but he provides everything you need.
As far as renting a boat, that marina rents them but I’m not sure if they rent tackle or not. I would think so but I don’t know for sure. They provide maps of where you’re allowed to take the boats and they can give you some guidance on where to go this time of year to hopefully find some fish.
I’ll be interested to hear the other advice you get though, maybe it will give me something new to check out next time I’m on the island.
