Thread: Pet Fur Fly Swap

  1. #11

    Default A wolf pack nymph?

I have 4 dogs. A dane, 2 short-hair pointers and an indeterminate breed.
(We don't call him a mutt, he's sensitive about his heritage).
Every time I sweep up, I get enough hair to make another dog.
    A lot of course dubbing.
Since these are so easy, I'll put up both a plain and beadhead version in size 10.

    Kirk

Hooks: Mustad 94840 (Beadhead) Daiichi 1330 (plain)
    Thread: UTC Grey 70
    Tail: Black Pheasant tail
Body: Wolf Pack (mixed with a little WAPSI "Dug Dub")
    Rib: Gold Ultra Wire
    Wing Case: Black Pheasant Tail

    Default Houston, we are GO

we are go on this swap; thank you all who have signed up so far. good to see another cat in there! check your PMs for the address. also, note that ben has changed his pattern so he can include both dogs--one at each end of the fly; how clever is that?

still room for the rest of you animal companions out there--sit on the Food Person's foot and make eye contact until you get signed up, okay? cats, dogs, birds, and all other pets are eligible, as long as some part of you can get tied on to a hook. signups open until Jan. 30 or all 12 slots fill up.

oh, BTW, we need the hook size just in case several of you tie something LARGE. lots of us tiny stream trout anglers send in Altoids tins expecting some north country wets and instead along comes a great big saltwater or bass Never-Fail that won't fit in there. if it's going to be bigger than about a 4, we need notice!

and thanks to John for bumping this thing--we'll try to do him proud.

There are still seven more spots left in this swap. I know there must be a lot more pet owners that want to imortalize there pets in a custom tied fly. Sign up now you have plenty of time to get your flies tied. John
I wish you all everlasting flies and tight lines.

OK OK this one sounds to fun not to get into. I have only been tying for about three weeks but have a kitten with the most beautiful orange fur. I think I can pull off some soft hackles.

Name Of Fly Fat Cat Soft Hackle

    Recipe:

Hook: Cabala's Mod. 21 Curved shank straight eye 3X in size 12

Body: Orange under fur from 1 Fat Cat ( I think the kittens name is Boo but I just
    call him Fat Cat )

    Hackle: Partridge

I think this fly might be pretty good on Sunfish and who knows maybe even Trout.

Now that I am in I hope they come out good and I think they will LOL

Just let me know if the new guy is in timcr810@sbcglobal.net or by PM

There are only 6 spots left in this one and only 9 more days to sign up. You have more than a month to get your flies tied and in for this one. That is plenty of time. I would advise not waiting to long to sign up for this one. John

    Default Welcome scubatim!

your orange kitty sounds like just the thing for a soft hackle for my favorite river. if it works, may i buy a dozen? or would you like to trade kitty underfur dubbing packs...oh, never mind, they'd probably not allow it into the Post Office!

    check pm for address.

    Wink

Can the "pet" be human? I can't stand my cat and won't touch the thing with a ten foot pole, and we haven't replaced Dougie the Dog since having to put him down almost 8 years ago. Still quite painful. I might be able to talk a family member out of a lock of hair, though. JGW

Tried to brush the cat but got no fur. Wife was not looking so I grabbed the scissors and clipped a pinch. The prototype came out pretty good but not as orange as I would have liked, so I will clip from a different spot ( something brighter ) when the wife is not home.

    Shhhhhhhh don't tell her LOL
