I had a new patient in a couple of weeks ago whose car was rammed from behind by a driver who was busily having a text message fight with his girlfriend. He had already almost swerved into their vehicle a couple of times. This accident occurred on a very busy boulevard during Christmas shopping season, so the traffic was pretty heavy at the time. My patient was already on disability for a severe chronic back condition, and this wreck didn't really help his situation much. His wife also received a fractured hand which required surgery. The driver who hit him was also on some type of medication at the time that should have precluded his driving. My patient said the other driver was taken to jail. Hope he stays there for a while. That's the way that sort of stupidity should be rewarded. I guess that sort of stupidity is nothing new. Over thirty years ago, I had a guy pass me on the interstate who was reading the Wall Street Journal and drinking coffee.
