Just like the answer to all fishing questions, Sometimes.

I do remember one particular experience fishing for smallmouth with my buddy. I with the fly and he with the spinning rod. After throwing everything in our boxes to the fish all day with no response at all there was one last option. He took out an old devils horse that I had in my box that hadn't seen water in like three or four years. He tied it on threw it out as far as he could and let it sit. Then he jerked it as hard as he could with a rod swing and let it pause. Fish started hitting like crazy. I switched over to a big deerhair diver and started doing the same. That trip turned out to be one of the best ones I remember.
