    Default Ugly Stick

I was in the store the other day and saw a 9wt Ugly Stick on sale. Do any of you have any experience with these?
I was thinking about trying the salt this year and I wanted to know if this would be good enough.

    During my fanatical bassing days
all I used were uglies in spin and cast.
Good rods for the money...imagine that
would apply to the flyrod as well athough
there are more variables to consider.

As indestructable as a fly rod can be perhaps. Heavy and slow for a graphite rod. Most anything else in its price range will cast better. Some guys take them to Baja as last ditch back up rods in case the break everything else they have. I think the Redington Crosswater, Albright TW are both better rods for less than $75.

I have an older Ugly Stick fly rod and although I don't really use it very much anymore, that rod is tougher than nails. About three years ago I accidently left it in the back of my pickup after a fishing trip. Failing to notice it, my brother and I loaded a sizable stack of firewood on top of the rod. As we unloaded the wood I noticed the rod tip sticking out from under the pile. To our surprise there was no damage to the rod or guides. It may not be the best casting rod I own but it seems to resistant to mortal danger.
