Default Grubic's Deer Hair Emerger SBS

Found this on swittersb site; added the partridge just because.

    hook - Dai Riki 320 #12
thread - UTC 70 grey brown
    tail/abdomen - deer hair
    hackle - partridge
collar/head - deer hair dyed dun

    Part 1

mash barb/start thread, wrap to bend

clean, stack, measure (gap width past bend) a clump of deer hair; tie in/trim

clean/trim tips on another clump of deer hair; 2 soft loops, increase tension and let it spin

lather, rinse, repeat up the shank to the 80% mark

rough cut (watch those tail fibers)

    final cut

    Part 2

tie in partridge by the tip; wrap, tie off/trim

clean, stack, measure (tips to bend) another clump of deer hair; 2 soft loops, spin (pretty poor job of cleaning out the underfur)

pull fibers back, make a small head, whip finish, SHHAN

    trim head to shape

    Regards,
    Scott

Nice tie Scott. Now is the time to gather those patterns for the long, cold winter to come!

Interesting tie. I just might give this a try over the winter tying cycle!
What caught my eye on this fly is another fly I've been "tinkering" with for some time, the Goddard Caddis dry fly! I've had good success with the Goddard caddis fly, both for trout and warm water (bluegill). Another fly fisherman put me on to them a few years back and I ended up buying a dozen. Really liked the results and so I thought I'd give it a whirl TRYING to tie them. Found this video on utube and have so far tied up a couple of them but so far have not had the opportunity to try them out (really wouldn't want to disclose how they look in public!). Anyway, here's that video, hope it copies.

Oh, nice! I can see Bluegill hammering this one. I've got some Caribou (actually, lots of it!) that should work great for this one.
