    Default Taneycomo Next Week

Will be in the Branson, MO area next week and plan to fish Taneycomo some. What flies would you recommend for this time of the year?

I was out there a couple of weeks ago and caught fish on just about everything including some dry flies. I would use tan scuds & Sow bugs (size 14-1 and assorted zebra midges(starting at size 20) also try small dry midges.

Also while you are there visit River Run Outfitters. They were very helpful with fly selection. You will have to check out their "Big Ugly" fly.

    Gordon,
As Ron suggested, stop in and talk to Stan and Carolyn at River Run. Another good source for info on Taneycomo is Phil Lilley. Here is the link to Phil's website. [url=http://www.ozarkanglers.com/:90a90]http://www.ozarkanglers.com/[/url:90a90]

River Run is the place to go for fly fishing info and supplies.

This time of year, your fly box should include copious amounts of:

Beadhead Zebra Midges 18-20 - rust, olive, bug green, red, black, and primrose and pearl. I tie mine w/gold beads. Black works OK too, but I think the gold works a bit better most of the time.

    Mosquito Midges 16-20

    Soft Hackles 16-20 - part/orange, part/olive, part/bug green, part/white, part/black

Egg pattern - peach, rainbow, red. Great when generation starts.

Scuds 12-18 - gray, ginger, olive, tan, UV purple. Fish size 16-18 on low flow and use the 12s and 14s (tied weighted) on power generation.

Cracklebacks 16-20. Fish dry or wet, but dry has been working better this summer.

If you pack all of these flies, you will ALWAYS have something in the box that they're keying on.

P.S. Oh...some small streamers work well too, especially for night fishing.
