moonlitflies;I guess I am trying to figure out the bennifit of all the seperate sections being combined together rather than longer sections. What I mean by this is it simply that it is easier to do shorter sections, or does it actually transfer energy better than longer sections?
    Cheers,
    Brandon

    Brandon,
This is Eddie's answer about the length of the line segments:

    "Hi John,
    The answer is simple.
I furled the lines by hands before, and I had to reach both ends of the
line. So 1.2 m is the maxmum length I was able to furl.

Thanks for the quick response! I wondered if that was what it was.

Thank Eddie for being so patient with all my goofy questions and always being prompt with answers.

    John,

What rod do you have that is 17ft? Would you mind giving us a review of this rod? The longest rod I have is the Nissin 4510 ProSquare.

It is a Diawa Kiyose 53MF that my partner EriK has been testing and evaluating for Chris Stewart (Tenkarabum.com)

It is a 15-17ft zoom rod for keiryu fishing. It is a monster of a rod. At full extension you cast with 2 hands. Not because it is heavy, it is just freaking long.

Chris has a really good review here: http://www.tenkarabum.com/daiwa-kiyose-43mf.html

I have the smaller brother the 43MF and it is a very nice zoom rod for larger stronger fish. 7-8 pound carp, not a problem for these rods, much more backbone than traditional tenkara rods and you can really put the rod to work on large/strong fish.

    John,
What is the maximum tippet suggested/possible for the 43MF?

Golden, actually the 43MF has a slightly stiffer butt and slightly softer tip than the Amago. The difference is not all at great http://www.tenkarabum.com/daiwa-kiyose-43mf.html but it is enough to be noticeable if you cast the two rods back to back. Since you already have an Amago, the main benefit of the 43MF would be the zoom function, which gives the ability to fish it at the shorter length in tighter spots, plus the lighter weight.

The rod should be available again next spring.

The additional info from Chris is very intertesting, but I'd still like to read John's answer to Golden's excellent question requesting a hands on comparison after using the Amago and the Daiwa 43MF.

Hey, Brandon, that's a pretty cryptic message. It leaves me wondering if tragedy has befallen friend John. Or has he headed for Christmas Island for some tenkara bonefishing with his Daiwa 43MF? ~pfa
