Hi all!

Well things are shaking up out here. As you know I was up in Kuujjuaq
(Ungava Bay) last week to meet clients. Well, they turned around and offered
a position, which I accepted ... To become Assistant Director for
Environment and Lands for Nunavik.

Because the territory have some autonomous powers coming out of the Bay
James Agreement, it is a regional government, ... My actual employer is the
Kativik Regional Government.

It is quite exciting. The forestry secteur in N. America will be on the
ropes for the next 3-8 years at the same time that mining and natural parks
are on the front burner in the far North.

It is quite a bit of responsibility, ... Nunavik covers 510,000 sq km ...
Compared to all of BC which is 900,000 sq km and I am the equivalent of
Deputy Minister.
14 isolated villages, lots of scrub taiga and tundra. Atlantic salmon and
arctic char! ...

I will move to Kuujjuaq in mid-march, but I have to run up feb 13-17 for a
conference. Good ice breaker.

I have often worked with First Nations, but the Innuits are particularly
nice.

Of course, Martine is not moving with me and we're working things out slowly
here.

Wow, Chris. That's a long way up and over. I had a friend, now passed, who flew F-94's out of Goose Bay in the early 50's. He used to talk about the great summer trout fishing. Good luck in your new position. Are you going to update your linked-in stuff? Stay in touch.

Hi All! ... Sorry I've been out of touch. The past year has gone by at break neck speed!!!

Yup, my linkedIn and Facebook profiles seem to be up to date. I guess the worst part is not being free to take out groups on my homewaters in 2012
The challenges and projects I have will be a blast. The Quebec government is trying to develop the North ... I guess my job will be to see that we do it Right!

I've worked with a number of First Nations communities over the past 25 years or so ... The Innuit are just a real special bunch. Friendly, warm hearted and truly in touch with the land. I will get in some fishing and I figure Deanna will have to open a new series ... "Our Man in *Northern" Canada"

I truth, I needed a real reason to get an 8wt 13'6" spey rod .... I'll look over some this weekend in Granby ... but unfortunately, I seem to already be set on the Hardy Zenith

Take care all of you down South ... I promise to not fall off the grid like that in the future. I feel you are all family ... it is a nice feeling!
