Phantastic Pheasant Swap

I've participated in a couple of swaps and would like to host my first. Though fairly new to the forum section I have contributed a couple items on the FAOL "Tying Tips". I've enjoyed tying flies for the past 30+ years and have shared more flies with Cub Scouts than with the fish! Now to the swap.

This is designed to give tiers a few new options on how to utilize the wonderful and varied body/neck/wing feathers of the male Ringneck Pheasant. With all due respect to Mr. Sawyer, no pheasant tails please. There is a total 9 openings for this swap and registration will close by COB May 12th. Please do not register for this swap if you cannot get your flies to me by June 1st. Please include the name of your fly when registering and toe tags when mailing your flies. I will send my mailing address to you when you are confirmed for the swap.

FYI: Pheasant body/neck/wing must be one of the main materials, after that the world is your oyster (you could even include pt in the fly - ie. if you have a favorite hopper pattern with a pheasant body feather for the wing cover you can include pt legs). Hope this helps - I do not dislike pt - I just wanted fliers to enjoy the rest of this wonderful bird. Thanks for all your questions/comments!

Does the fly have to be ONLY Pheasant or can they have a mix of other feathers as well?

You are in Jeffro. Any fly - any size and pheasant body, neck and/or wing feathers need to be one of the materials for the fly - tie up your favorite and have some fun!

may i join? i have a whole pheasant skin in the back of the closet and a recipe i've been meaning to tie!

i copied the recipe out of "...just old flies and stuff..." on this board a couple of years ago.

it's a fly with a nifty story. there seem to be two ways to tie it, so i could start with one and if i run out of the right kind of feather, i could resort to the other.

question for the swappers: weighted or unweighted? it's a streamer.

CaseyP - you are in. One question - are you tying with the rump or church window (or other) feathers. I was planning on the Mrs. Simpson - and since their are about 4-5 different feather types that can be used - you and I can show how a subtle difference in the recipe can produce two quite different looking flies. Let me know if this sounds good to you - you have first choice of feathers. (I have plenty of each feather and am happy to share if you need - again, just let me know).

Also, when I've tied using the wool I never felt the need to weight the fly. (My 2 cents)

oopsy! what an embarrassment...

y'know, as i was plucking and matching rump feathers last night in front of the TV, i wondered if you were going to tie Mrs. Simpson as well. i thought the post said Mrs. Sawyer so i persisted. my apologies--reading is not my first language.

may i switch to Jack Gartside's Sparrow? it uses rump feathers as well, and will make a nice variety on the list.
