    Default St. Croix 8' 5wt

Well this is one of those rods where you build it and you hate to pack it up and send it away This is the new SCIV Burgundy ST Croix that just came out on March 22nd. I LOVE these blanks. Fast action yet still has a great feel (not a "dead" feel like some fast blanks, its light in the hand and the color is just flat out sweet.

Did a Amboyna burl reel seat insert with Nickle silver BUL5 hardware, Grip is a mix of brown burl, aransas, 1/4" burn at the front and 1/2" burnt at the rear with some red trim to accent the blanks redish burgundy color. Used Garent with CP (which is my fav color on these new blanks) with Single turn gold metallic trimming.

I have this same blank in a 7wt for myself yet to build, but after building this one I think I just may have to get one in a 905 for myself as a new dry fly rod for this year. After all, you can never have "too many" rods right? lol

Once again, a great looking stick. Do you find that you have to wrap metallic thread really tight to get it to stay in place? I'm having that problem with my switch rod.
Where you go is less important than how you take the steps.

Yeah a bit tighter than you would normally do nylon thread Joe. What I normally do is when I do a trim band I will leave the first tag end about 3" long, then after I do the trim band I will cut it so the 2nd tag end is about 3" long. Then Take both tag ends and give them a little pull and that will tighten the whole trim band up, then trim the tag ends flush.

Great build, Steve! I'm a fan of St. Croix rods. Light, and great feel.
