Unhappy Good news/bad news. Not doing so well.

First off finally got reliable Internet service back. That is the good news.

Now the bad news. The endocrinologist I went to for thyroid ablation is rather difficult to deal with. The ablation was done in November. He looked at me in early December, drew blood and put me on thyroid hormones. he said the results would be in about two weeks, we will call and see you in 6 weeks!

I have been having bad spells like hyperthyroid again then almost like hypothyroid. Up and down with no word from the doc. Called for the test results and the receptionist gave me the numbers. When I asked what the doc had to say about the results she said she did not know and the doctor said he would discuss that at my next appointment in two weeks!

I knew something was really wrong so I went back to my regular doc. Soon as she saw me she said she was very concerned. She drew blood for her own tests. Got the results today. I am still very hyperthyroid! There is a fight brewing between the docs. She was really hot that he put me on the hormone pill before waiting for my labs to show my hormones were low. She said there is no way he can even guess at an accurate dose without first allowing the natural production to drop off.

Regular doc wants me to stop taking the hormone, go back to the endocrinologist and see what he does this time then report it back to her immediately. He knows she is my PCP but has not sent her any reports. This chap has the bedside manner of a dead cod. Treated me pretty well at first but now it is like "next" I am just another one for him.

Well my regular doc is going to be there for me anytime I need her. She wants to keep an active hand here so I agree that she should keep an eye on things. This has driven my blood glucose numbers up. A1C from 6.3 up to 7.5 and average blood sugar from 105 to 169 (seeing spikes in the 230-335 range now). Only thing keeping my BP and heart rate down are the Beta blockers. I am back to not being able to sleep but maybe 4 hours in a day. Very restless hours at that.

I was getting better but now I am worse. My mental faculties are so bad that I forgot to pay my bills on time this month. I have items sitting here to be shipped out and I just cannot get it done. Amy knew something was up because "bear with a sore a@#" is back.

If I disappear for while folks I apologize and hope you all understand. When I do make it to work I come home and drop to the couch in exhaustion yet I cannot sleep.

    God Bless,
    Eric

    Eric,
I have the severe thyroid opposite, I have Hashimotos syndrome. I had it for at least 5 years before anyone could diagnose what it was, so I was prescribed stuff I should not have been etc. Eventually my 'doc' had a biopsy done and it was confirmed. I will be on maintenance meds the rest of my life - BUT I am really quite normal. I do have a blood run done every 3 months to make sure I am on track. It did take some time yes, and I am fine. Hang in there one day at a time if you have to, but you can do it. Let your doc who has been taking care of you do the dirty work, she can beat on the 'expert' let her do it. Keep the faith, I know it is maddening, just do it.
    Hugs,

Thanks LF what you posted means a lot to me. I keep you and all of our FAOL family in my thoughts and prayers. I did some reading about Hashimoto's Syndrome and it is nasty. I am glad they got you regulated.

I go in every month for blood work due to diabetes. Now doc says she is going to be checking that thyroid too.

    Eric,

Deanna is right. Hang in there and give the doctors time to evaluate this more. I have Graves disease which is another tyhroid disease. I still have my thyroid, but, it has be killed with 2 doses of radiation. I now am on thyroid meds for the rest of my life. It is not too bad. I am sensitive to cold and must watch how much I eat or I would weigh 278 instead of 178. It is under control and I am able to do whatever I use to do. Just hang in there and keep the faith. It will all come out for the good in the end.

Keep us posted when you can...

Eric, is there another endocrinologist in the area? Make it clear to your PCP that you don't feel comfortable with this guy. They resist recommending a another doctor when you are already seeing one but you can insist. Look for a redwings fan, you know they are smarter than penguins fans (that should give you a burst of energy).
I can think of few acts more selfish than refusing a vaccination.

Sorry to hear things are difficult again. Let your regular doc take care of the specialist, she sounds like she's already doing that as she should. I agree that you should see a different specialist if that's at all possible. Being comfortable with your doctor is a big part of health care. I'm sure it will all come right eventually, and I'm hoping for you that eventually is just around the bend. Do what you have to do to get well. Take care.

Eric, I don't understand squat about the medical stuff you have, sorry, but you know I am always pulling for you. Keep fighting and let us know how you are doing when you can.
