North Carolina bugs

Any advice on bugs you can expect to find in Western NC trout streams? Any websites with hatch charts, etc. you can point me to?

I am guessing smallish stuff... PW Adams, midges, etc.

Hey go to Davidson River Outfitters they are one of the best around I believe they have a 800 number as well I call all the time to get updates when I head that way.

Look at the traditional patterns.

That link starts with the last page, the first entered, patterns and is where more of the tradional flies are. Thunderhead, Yellow Hammer, Tennessee and Carolina Wulffs, Adams and Parachute Adams, Smith River Allieworm (a newer classic), etc... Look for the SEFFF Essential flies.

Sounds like I will not have to supplement too much. I have hundreds, if not thousands of small midges (18-24) and a good assortment of 18-22 PW Adams and BWOs. Might have to get some of the larger stuff for the spring, and maybe pick up some stonefly stuff...

And not to worry, I am not fishing there anytime soon (I know the fish would take a beating in the heat right now). Family is about to purchase some property in the NC Mountains and it is right in the middle of trout country. Should be interesting!
