    Default Lunchtime Challenge

Instead of a swap I thought it might be fun to challenge you other tiers to bring a kit to work (if that's allowed and safe) to do some tying over lunch break. There is no real tyer vs. tyer aspect to this, I use the word challenge in a most indefinite manner. I just want to start some folks to tying. A kind of virtual tying get-together.

Here is my first, a Gartside Sparrow

Nice looking fly. I always have my tying kit with me at work and not just for lunch time ( shushhhh don't tell the boss )

Sounds good Tim! So how about treating us to a fly next lunchtime?

Man I'd love too but last time I tried to tie flys at work was at our company picnic a couple of years ago. Got spanked by the boss for not interacting with the rest of "the team". He said I sat at a table with my back to everyone and that just wasn't appropriate.

Well my back was turn only because it's impossible to tie while looking into the sun and I guess it's true, none of the dozen or so kids who came over and tied flies were "employees". So I'll have to enjoy this through those of you who are able. Looking forward to your posts. Don't mean to whine but I'm having one of those days.

You are granted special dispensation to tie on non-lunch hours. But you must submit photographic evidence that you actually did tie a fly....

    Robin,

Thanks for the "pass". Here's a couple I tied up last night. The first is a Biot Body CDC Caddis that our very own "JohnScott" sent me the model for. John if you read this post your critique would certainly be appreciated.

The second is a Sparkle Caddis Emerger (ala G. Lafontaine) that I was able to tie with materials supplied by "J" from the board, who answered my inquiry regrading Lafontaine style tying with a veritable boat load of antron yarn in more colors than I could have ever imagined! "J" if you're out there please don't hesitate to tell me what you think.

Next on the agenda is some Deep Sparkle Caddis Pupae. Again thanks for the pass! Picture quality isn't what I had hoped for, sometime the camera seems to work better than others.

One of the cool things about being retired from "a real job" is that I work part time in a fly shop that I have enjoyed over the years, and we have the opportunity to tie flys all day long, and get to do demonstrations of the various vises and equipment we have all the time. Get to use the Nor Vise a lot and that thing is amazing. Working hard right now on tying some articulated flies and they are a lot of fun to tie.

    Joe -

Both those flies look really good. We've had very few caddis come off so far on the water I fish around here, but it won't be long before both those patterns will be getting a real work out locally.

    John

P.S. I got your "letter." Really wasn't necessary, but thanks.
    The fish are always right.
