Default D. G. Schroeder cane rods?

    In by email:

I am considering buying a cane rod for my son who fishes for trout up on the South Platte in CO. One maker here in the state is D. G. Schroeder. Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with him and his rods? I would very much appreciate any comments.

    Fred,

Don Shroeder builds awesome bamboo rods. Beautiful tapers, very smooth. Quality finish. Joy to cast and fish, and pride to own.

    You will not be disappointed.

    Cheers,
    Hans W

I cast his 7' 4wt quad at the show in Somerset, very nice rod, but not cheap, I believe the rod was $1650, for that much money I'd get a Kusse.
The man who coined the phrase "Money can't buy happiness", never bought himself a good fly rod!

I have 2 of Don's rods and love them !! Beautiful cosmetics and terrific casting at both short and long distances.

schroeder is considered one of the top 5 or 6 cane rodmakers in the country by many. what distingushes the top 5 from the next 5 i don't know but his name comes up frequently. read about him in ed engle's book on contemporary cane rod builders. i believe he favors payne tapers, which you can't go wrong with!
