    Default Rod #1 finally restored

I finally finished restoring unknown rod #1. Its a 3 pc 9ft and throws a 6 weight WF line like nothing Ive ever experienced. The reel seat was salvaged and the handle replaced. Its wrapped in Pearsal's antique gold tipped with cardinal. The butt section has a yellow banded agate with intermediate wraps at 16, 18, and 20" The finish is brushed on since I didnt have the appropriate facilities to dip it. It has a few flaws but nothing that is too hard on the eyes. The ferrules were also salvaged. This rod was bought at an antique shop which was the gentlemans father. It looks much better now and will see many more days on the river harassing the smallmouth and trout.

all criticism is welcome from you experienced guys.

    Thanks,
    Seege

I have no idea what kind it is, but it is a really nice looking rod whatever it is.

Nice looking rod seege. Bring it to the 3RFF Club meeting on the 17th for a hands-on lookie see.

Nothing wrong with a brushed finish. I brush all of my rods. I think the dip/drip tube method is over hyped anyhow. It's a waste of a lot of good varnish and creates it's own set of problems.

Welcome to the obsession Seege! You are doomed now! Did the same thing that you did two or three years ago. Now I am planing the strips for my second rod. No regrets and no looking back. I love it. There's nothing like a cane rod.

Doggonit, Seege!! I just got a 9'6# "Governor", that I was going to fish "as-is". You certainly shot that idea all to pieces!! Now I'm going to HAVE to refinish it!! Your rod looks beautiful!! Good job!!

What type agate did you use? Red banded or yellow banded?

Its yellow banded. I cant wait for the next rod to be finished. I started taking the ferrules of and heated them too much and the strips seperated a little. I need to re glue them and buy some ferrules and reel seat. I will try and fabricate my own handle this time. I received the SB 359 with the comificient grip and I love that thing. Its brand new so I figure if I outline it on some paper then I will have some kind of template to work from.

    Good Luck,

I detect absolutely NO REMORSE in Seeges post, for what it has done to me.
