Thread uni 70 red
hook sz 8 tiemco
body Golden stone ice dub
rib Fine copper wire
Wing Sythic calf tail

Not very artistic, should work well.

I envy the better Tyler’s that regularly post on this board. Hard as I try, my flys just never have that perfectly tied look.

Criticism is welcome.

They fish ok, and hold together reasonably well.

Hope to get a chance to use this pattern in May on the stone hatch in the Big D.

I have shared it before, but the best advice I was given early in learning to tye flies is "You are trying to make a fly that looks like something a fish eats, not some other guys' fly." Then a personal realization is trout are predators they don't go after the best they go after the weak, the lame, the cripple, imperfect may be better than perfect. I do enjoy the products and efforts of good tyers however.

Guys, tying those beautiful flies like Scott, Norm and a few others is as much of an art as painting in my opinion. I don't profess to be an artist, but love to tie at my skill level and keep trying for perfection (never happen). That said, I have caught allot of fish on my ole ugly flies. As Jesse said, trout as not good critics. Just enjoy it and continue to admire those tying artist for their work. I just tied some Henryville Specials and from a distance they look pretty good. One thing for certain, they ain't coming apart.

Nice tie. A lot of fisherman believe that scruffy flies fish better. (not talking about the fly you posted) Some tiers go to a lot of trouble to tie ratty looking flies. Not me! Mine always look like I've thrown them on the floor and stomped on them a few times. The very best day I have ever had was on the Little Tennessee River before it was dammed. This was before some of you were born and the Little T was one of the best streams in the South I fished a Brown Hackle wet fly that I tied and the fish couldn't get enough of it. When I had to quit, the fly was torn all to pieces and still catching fish. I kept the ragged thing a long time to show people. Don't know what happened to it but I wished I'd framed it! I do envy the beautiful flies tied by most of you and tried and tried to get every thing somewhat like them but it just ain't in me. I've finally accepted this and still love tieing. The fish, Bless them, seem to have accepted them also.

That is a clever use of materials , really like the wing effect , outstanding!
Will be fishing some like that may not look as good though,
