    Default Pumpkinseeds

I got out to flyfishing for a couple hours before the late afternoon storm with lightning blew in on Sunday.
I caught at least 20 bluegills, 6 crappies, 3 largemouth bass, and 8 pumpkinseeds. The Largemouth preferred an unweighted chartreuse Woolly Bugger, the crappies and sunfish preferred a chartreuse microjig or silver Springbrook Wunder under an indicator.
I mainly took pictures of the Pumpkinseeds, because they are so colorful.

This Bluegill had an unusually black belly and pelvic fins:

Pumkinseeds were on nests, and I saw a few pairs doing the spawning thing in them:

I am not sure why people keep "tropical" fish when some of our local species are just as interesting... Nice pumpkins.

I love to see them in spawning color like that. Nice fish.

I can tell you why....Pumpkins get too big for some of the tanks. Yes when I was a little boy I did this. Plus they eat so much more then Tropical fish eat! LOL

Really? Do you remember what you fed them. I know they make commercial fish chow. I've been thinking about setting up a 100 gallon "pond" tank...

"Pumpkins" are beautiful and when I find them here, they are usually hugging the bank and will attack anything that comes into the water! They are fun to catch!

Fly fishing and fly tying are two things that I do, and when I am doing them, they are the only 2 things I think about. They clear my mind.
