It's OK with me if you want to join the SOTM. We do classic flies all the time. It's a little late to join for this month, since some of the flies have already been mailed, but you could get in for next month. I think we agreed several months ago not to limit the swap to only 12 tyers. Just remember, you will be joining for the rest of the year, and will need to tie a set of flies each month. The host for each month sets the theme.

I think you'll like it. It's a lot of fun, and we tie some very interesting (and sometimes challenging) flies.
