Anybody tie these?
I read the article in Fly Fisherman and saw the instructions. One piece of info missing (in my opinion, anyway).
How thick is the foam overlay supposed to be?
Anybody know?

Steven,
I've always just used 2mm craft type foam for these.
Some guys tie them with the furry foam available in fly shops, and that's a bit thinner as far as the foam goes. I've seen them done with the thicker and more corse looking fly shop foam too.
Probably doesn't matter all that much.

It Just Doesn't Matter....
All the versions I've seen use much heavier foam than 2mm. I'd go with 4mm myself. Perhaps on smaller versions 2mm would suffice, but this was originally a skating fly, I think, and needed all the floataion it could get.
Agree with Whatfly. A good friend messed around with perfecting HIS version before Cancer took him.
He used Muskrat because of it's natural water repellant and the thicker foam.
This is all I use now, but occasionally use 2mm.
if u tie with 2 mm first and it doesnt float, just glue two pieces together, and tie with that instead

I was hoping you would pick up on this thread. I remember you tied the mouse at the demo down at Jimmy's last year, but I couldn't remember which critter skin you used.
Seems to me the mouse you tied with muskrat would be much simpler to tie than the Morrish, with its spun deer hair body.
Might be a good candidate for a FOTW ?? PLEASE.
