I've heard that they have the same blanks, but to me, they do not cast the same. The Helios has a faster recovery rate than the Hydros......not sure if paint, cork, and hardware would make that much...
I have a 5 wt Helios that I love, so when I was looking for a new 8 wt, I tested the Helios. It is a great rod, but for my casting skills, I found that it took more effort to cast any distance than...
The rod I take w/ me on an outing for small-med streams like the Ausable or Manistee depends on what I plan to fish (dry vs. nymph vs. small streamer), but I use one of these:
Scott G2 8'8" 4 wt...
The ZXL is a nice rod and I also almost bought one.....and then, like Joni, I tried a JWF! Haven't looked back at the ZXL and a JWF has been added to my rod rack.
The Bauer Rogue is a great reel! I've used them on 8 (Rogue 4) and 6 (Rogue 3) wt rods for several years. I've never had any problems with them and the drag is very smooth - no hesitation.
I only use tube flies for smallies b/c they dont have as big a tendency to swallow tube flies - much safer for the fish. I tie the same types of flies (buggers, etc).
The Llama is my "go to" streamer. It works better for me than anything else. Second best is the Grizzly King. I prefer using these than more "modern" streamers which do not seem to work very well...
I'm a life long (native MI) Tigers fan - Go Tigers!!!!
......and I even cheered for the Lions - even through the decades-long drought - Go Lions!!!! Finally!!!! (sorry, its been so long, I just...
Good choices!!!! You'd have to pry my BIIt and WT's out of my cold, dead hands! :-)
Please! As unpleasant as the preparation is for a colonoscopy, it lasts less than one day - this is nothing compared to the disease. Mom passed away in April this year from complications related to...
LOL! Yes! post a picture!
I knew that birds got drunk feeding on fermented berries, but never thought about fish......wonder how one can tell if a carp is intoxicated? :-)
Fortunately, I have not seen that! Herding the dogs inside from under the mulberry tree has been an annual tradition in our yard in June for a number of years - since that stupid tree started...
Could we add this as a page on the Fly Tying section of this website?
My dog must think she's a carp! When I take her outside to go to the bathroom, I can't get her out from under that tree!
Congratulations, Panfisher! It takes a lot of determination and hard work to do what you did!
The City of Springfield, Ohio went through this process over the past few years for Buck Creek, which flows through downtown Springfield. I think this project might be more similar to that of the...
Well said! I also hire guides for other reasons as well - as a female, there are places I simply will not go alone and since my husband does not fish, there are many places I would not be able to...
My grandmother used to keep lemons in the kitchen specifically for getting rid of stinky fish smell. I still use that method today - works better than soap to get rid of fish smells. Take a slice...
All the good and obvious fly fishing words and abbreviations have already been taken, so mine is CDSFLY (caddis fly). It is a specialty plate promoting stream conversation and has a brook trout on...
Have a great day today, Joni!!!!!!!!!
They look great! So, how did they work?
Your bucktails look really good!
Wow! Congratulations!!!!!
