well I think fame has a lot to do with it, but it shouldn't.
Have you been using the Minima guides much and what do you think of them? I used them for strippers on one rod but I haven't tried them for running guides.
Greg
I have used a 7 weight 9' in Alaska for pinks, they're not that big. I used my Batson RX7, nice rod. Last year I broke it on a big Sockeye trying to land it up against the bushes and I high sticked....
Me, I like the understated look. I like the brown wraps on the black rod, it looks nice with the brown cork grip. Good work, Steve.
A couple members posted that they despise Burl cork in another thread. I think Burl, or "exotic" cork is fantastic. It is so much more substantial than cork, especially the mostly crummy cork you get...
Great job, Kevin. I'm sure the photos don't do it justice, personally I like the subdued style that gleams in the sunlight. Very, very nice grip. Cork is Quercus suber bark. To Colton: good work,...
Good project. The grip came out great, nice and tight to the ferrule. I am not familiar with the flexlite guides. Looks like the running guides have the ring pretty high off the blank. I use a small...
Nice grip. The contrasting wraps are very striking, it looks good.
Great job, Steve. It takes courage to do that to a good blank.
Greg
Many use a "4 weight" blank to build a ultra light travel spinning rod. Gary Loomis originally made steelhead spinning rods with "fly rod" blanks. The blank does not care what you use it for. Only...
You could simply use a long Tennessee spinning grip instead of a half wells, nylon slip rings, and size 16, 10 spinning guides and fly guides for the running guides. Put on a fly reel or a spinning...
I took it to a local lake today. Overhead single hand cast with a wf5-f: okay. Didn't load well enough to do any spey type casts very well so I think I'll try the 7wt line like Steve said. I think a...
This is a 10'8" 5 wt with a 9 1/2" fore grip and 2 1/2" butt grip. Dark brown thread no cp, copper metallic thread trim wraps. AW12 window seat. Grip sealed with CA glue and wet sanded. I'm looking...
Sevier has a 6' 4/5 tiger eye. I am building one soon if you want a report. Steve, is that a spinning blank? Beautiful with the wood on the grip, blank color and thread color going together.
Harleybob, I sent you a message.

I enjoyed reading this.
I have a 8' 4wt 2 piece Batson RX7 that is real nice. I haven't tried the 4 pc though.
Dunfly reminds me of why I never buy the high priced brands: I don't feel like paying for their marketing...
Steve, I really like what you have done on this rod. There is a lot of detail in the wraps without being gaudy.
Greg
Anyone that builds rods know how much love and care went into making that rod for your brother. It looks like he is very proud to show it off to folks that realize that, too. Good job, Kevin.
Very nice work on the trim bands, Steve. I built a rod for myself on that same blank. If you cast it you are going to make one for yourself, it's sweet with a Airflo 480 compact Skagit.
I posted something here without realizing you guys were on page two. Edit: I believe Hugefish can build a very nice fast action 9 wt rod for around $200. Batson rx8 and Mudhole MHX are lighter than...

Very nice, Steve.
I bet it can be sanded to a shape you will like better, find a rod repair person near you and ask them.
I think the rat tail file is too short. I got a reamer making kit from Neal's fishing products and made a few reamers.

It came with a bunch of rod sections, some...
