Just to REstate a GRIPE!

The "Fish Ins" forum location and separate sub whatever is a STUPID idea. (PERIOD) . I would love to see a show of hands and an explanation of the LOGIC behind it's placement herein. By itself it can be a VERY interesting forum that should not be HIDDEN . New posts should be posted as in all other forums on the main page easily accessible to anyone interested. I would be willing to wager that a change in placement/format would increase participation in the various FIs or at least readership of the forum.

I said this years ago but it did no good! I bet that the majority of the members even know what a "Fish-In" is!

Fish-Ins are the greatest things ever!! A chance to see everyone you've met on FAOL. See some of the prettiest areas of the US. Eat incredible local foods. Fish till you literally drop!! Certainly do wish more information was available on them, out in the open for everyone to see.

I agree. Why hide them?

I think I replied to this some time ago. Let me repeat - Click on Fish-In and voila - what's the difficulty??

I'm with Tig. What's hidden about FIs. It's as plain as day if you are at all interested. Click on it and there is the information. The problem is that interest is decreasing or so it seem. Kboom could not be more specific about the 2017 MI FI.

"The problem is that interest is decreasing................." And I would wonder WHY? Perhaps if it were more "in your face" , interest in the FIs would increase.. Many of us search and read new replies to all forum topics out of interest and curiosity without having to click on sub categories. If the post topic on the main board stated "Michigan Fish In " for example, it would pique the curiosity/interest of a whole lot more readers. If I saw a post "PA Fish In 2017", even if I wasn't there or intended to attend in the future, I would open and read the post as I'm sure many others would also rather than clicking on Fish Ins and then a sub category.
I cannot make my point any clearer. CURIOSITY rather/more than specific interest drives readership.
In any case, thanks for the comments either pro or con.

What are they?

Wading into this, with hopes of not slipping on a rock.

I do believe the "problem" with the Fish-In posting is that you can not just create a new thread. On almost all of the other forums you can simply click on "Post A New Thread" and away you go.

But, for the Fish-In forum, for some reason you actually have to submit a proposal for a new thread : "If you have organized a Fish-In in your area and would like both a forum, and an article space for it on the web site please let us know."

So, you can't just post about a new Fish-IN, it has to be submitted and someone has to accept your proposal and create a new thread for postings.

Now, once that is done, then people can post new treads about that particular Fish-In.

So, if someone wanted to propose a new Fish-In, say at Devils Lake in North Dakota (the place just came to mind, I have never been there :) ) then they would have to ask for a new thread to be created.

I do believe that is the 'problem' with the Fish-In forum.

You could always stop in Paris on the way to the fish-in. Paris Michigan is East of U.S. 131, a bit North of Grand Rapids. Prices are much cheaper than Paris France and they speak English. Of course if you take this advice it might be a good idea to invest in a really comfortable couch.

Paris will be there later, the HEX hatch waits for no one, I am sure there is a compromise to be had somehow.

Can't make it again this year, will be up in northern Quebec catching large smallmouth, walleye and pike. At least that's the plan.

I'm sure that I am missing something here.....Didn't they dedicate a separate place so folks could post about their fish-ins and know where to go to do so?

Byron, yes they did, sort of. You just can't post about a new Fish-In. Only the Fish-Ins that have been approved by the website administrator, or whoever and have had a slot created for them can be posted about. Brand spanking new Fish-Ins can not be posted about until a slot is made for them.

Must be a reason. Unknown to me as to why.

Gotcha ! Wouldn't be some sort of liability issue, would it?

I had thought of that but they issue a disclaimer on the forum page so I don't see why they have it set up that way. With the disclaimer, I don't see a reason to restrict Fish-Ins.

Being part of the "powers that be" I think that our readers should understand : Our IT guy works for free. Our administrators work for free. Your editor works for free. The access to the site is free. The Fish-Ins were something that was started years ago by Deanna and Jim. I understand that they were great for everyone that participated but time has passed and things have changed. If you want to have a Fish-In have one. Post your information on the BB on one of the threads and have at it.

Hey Brad,
You must have "brain waved" your suggestion to me last week onaccounta Luba ( my wife of 49 yrs 357 days and the one who's cheek you scared with your errant fly cast) left for Paris yesterday with our daughter. I could not go because to remain "rich" ( as mentioned in the "how the rich flyfish" topic) I have to complete a project under deadline. She will return on the 10th which WILL be our 50th wedding anniversary. I have been told that my "Shark" vacuum cleaner present may NOT be appropriate for the occasion. We'll see and I will report.

Retrieving tongue from cheek, upon her return we're off East to all the charming New England seaport villages ( suggestions appreciated) to spend about a week to relax , consume the views and vast quantities of lobster rolls and local squeezins.

PS: Just received a Paris call, we're having our 50th ( plus a few days) anniversary dinner at the Castle Inn in Newport RI.

Congratulations Marco to you and your wife for 50 years of marriage. My late wife and I were within 5 years of our 50th when she died of cancer. May you and your wife have many more anniversaries together.

We started celebrating our 50th last August and haven't stopped yet. Out West last year and New England this year. Of course, there will be a stop at the Beaverkill Inn in Lew Beach for a few days. Congratulation to both of you! Enjoy your trip.
