allan - life dictates that I withdraw from this swap. I've gotten behind on too many things and have far too many balls in the air, to finish in time. that sucks and I apologize.
Allan , please feel free to any and all extra flies I have sent for this swap. Thanks
Hi blur,
Really? While I'm in no position to judge how it is that, "life dictates that I withdraw from this swap", I can say that I'm disappointed. Sure life happens and such. But you signed on over a month ago. In another thread you wrote, "tooting my own horn a bit, I hosted some of the best swaps this site has seen. *not that that matters a whit as to what I'm talking about, though if you were there then you remember and know." Yes I do. And that is why your dropping out at this late date is so surprising and so disappointing.
texfly - I don't keep extra flies. They will be returned with the swapped flies but thank you.
Allan
Hi Allen,
Flies taken to the post office this morning. I had to pay signficantly extra for the shipping, but the post office gauranteed that they will be to your house on this Saturday. (That remains to be seen, but I am hoping they will be there tomorrow....let us know.) I also included a couple of extra streamers for you, but did not know that you would not accept them until reading the above notes.
I too got in a bind on tying. We were out of town much more than normal this month, and I had difficutly with the tying because the only woodchuck I had was not as nice as I would have liked, so had to play a lot with the wings. Even so, the wings were thinner than I would have liked. At any rate I tied significantly more than were needed for the swap, and tried to pick out some of the better ones to send. I probably should not have done that, given my time situation, and should have done the best I could on the required number and sent them....but live and learn.
I probably should not have joined the swap, knowing what irons I had in the fire during the past month, but the thought of a swap of classic streamers was too irresistable to miss out on, and now that the flies are on the way I am glad I joined.
Thank you for hosting the swap, it is much appreciated.
Thanks and regards,
Gandolf
Gandolf,
Thanks for your 'stick-to-itness'. Sorry the postage was so much. I could've sworn the deadline is May 1st(Tuesday). I'll post when flies arrive.
Allan
Hi Allan,
Thanks for the note.
You are correct about the due date, and I also knew the deadline was next Tuesday. As a result I thought that I should go an extra mile to try to make sure that the flies would be there by Tuesday, so went the higher grade mail service. I didn't know if going only the priority mail route would get them to you on time. The post office folks said that the flies would be there on Saturday even by priority mail, but after thinking it over a bit decided I did not want to take a chance.
I knew the deadline, and had been working on the flies, but had much to do lately, and wasn't paying enough attention to the amount of time left until the due date. So when I suddenly realized that I was in a bit of a box decided that I should go to the extra expense in effort to get the flies to you on time. You had posted the due date, so I have no excuse.
Thanks and regards,
Gandolf
Gandolf,
WOW! That was one heck $$s of a postal fee. I sincerely hope that, when you receive your flies, you feel the swap was worth it. By the way, that pattern is one of my personal favorites. You'll find one that I've tyed included with the bunch you'll get.
Thanks for your commitment.
Allan
Hi Allan,
The issue for me was to make sure that I fulfilled my obligation to all of the other folks in the swap. I would not have felt very good about being late, and not getting the streamer to the other guys. If I had to pay a few extra bucks because I had not kept track of my time the way way I should have, then so be it.
I am looking forward to seeing the flies though. Classic streamers are special in my view.
I spent too much time fooling with my pattern. Other than the woodchuck I had not being as good as I would have liked, and hence the wing not as nice as I would have liked and thus having to fight the head size, I was fairly satisfied with the Llamas. I am not familier with your pattern, so am looking forward to seeing it.
Regards,
Gandolf
Gandolf,
I simply meant that the Llama is a favorite pattern of mine. I like the look and enjoy tying it. Same pattern recipe except maybe slightly different insofar as some very minor details depending on material and hook size. I'll send you one or two in the package.
Again, thanks for your over-the-top effort to fulfill commitment.
Allan
