OKAY - Last Attempt
Some of you expressed an interest in a 'themed' swap. Well, I'll try this and if it does not get the interest, then I guess I'll simply consider swaps on this site dead.
Theme: Classic* STREAMERS
General Rules:
1. maximum 11 swappers, thereby if full, everyone ties 10 flies.
2. Sign up by March 24.
3. Flies due IN MY HANDS by May 1st (plenty of tying time) so there's no reason to be late.
4. Any flies received after due date will be refused and returned to sender.
5. Flies will be distributed and back in the mail to swappers by May 5th.
6. Please place 'toe tags' on each fly with your name and pattern name on the tag.
7. Place flies in a secure box within an envelop and also include a SASE for the return.
Please post any questions if you have.
* classic = In a book published covering fly patterns of pre-1980, i.e. by Leiser, Bates, about Stevens, Bergman, Herter, etc.
Let's see how this works out.

Count me in. I'll hit the Bates book and start looking for a patten. Probably some type of bucktail.

Hi Alan,
Sounds great, I would like to tie a llama. I do have to check and make sure that I have the hackle though.
Sorry, I didn't see the note about "classic" streamer swap until after sighing up, and don't have a tying book prior to 1980. I am sure it is a classic streamer, as I am fairly certain that it is a classic brook trout streamer from Maine at least as old as the 1930s. Please advise if it is not OK.
Thanks and regards,
Gandolf

Gandolf,
Nice choice. Llama is a very nice classic streamer. The only hackle you need is grizzly.
Now I just have to look into a source book and find a pattern. Will post one soon.

You can't do any better than Joseph Bates. If anyone needs research and doesn't have a book, there are many great websites for classic streamers and bucktails.
My favorite all-time fly is the Chief Needabah, but I don't have the right feathers for it. I just like the way it looks. I've never actually used, or even had one. It's just cool.
Here are some websites with great classic streamers.

And don't forget the FAOL archives.

Hi Allan,
I have the pattern, just didn't know if it was going to be an acceptable pattern, because I don't have an old enough tying book.
Thanks and regards,
Gandolf

Now I really do feel old. I wasn't around for the book signing of "The Compleate Angler", but I was fly fishing and tying way before Mr. Blessing came up with the Wooley Bugger.
I have quite a collection of very old fly tying books.

If there is room, I'm in. Black Ghost.
Please PM delivery address.
