Boa yarn leech
Years ago I found a fly pattern for a Boa Yarn Leech
Had a great experience yesterday at a small farm pond. Fishing a black BYL I was able to bring to hand 4 bass, 4 bluegill, 4 shellcracker, and 3 black crappie.
The boa yarn leech is one of the simplest flies to tie. It is remarkable how many bluegill and bass and other species will eat this fly. I am not sure who posted the original fly years ago but I know Rick Z. has written several reports of his successes using the BYL.
I usually tie them on sz 12 or 10 hooks.
I wanted to say thanks for the pattern and encourage others to tie up some and fish them if they haven't already.
Thanks
Greg

Had a lot of fun. I have been using this fly for what seems like 10 years or more. It is a very effective fly. During all of this time I have never tried to catch a trout on it. Of all the color schemes available black seems to work best.

Where do you guys get the yarn?

Goggle Boa yarn and you can find some places.

I googled and found pictures of the fly ( or at lease somebody's version of it.) Is there a link to the pattern or tying instructions somewhere?
I'd like to give ita try myself.

It is in the FOTW archives here. Will try to find it later today.
FOTW 2007 archives has a legged version.

Rick,
Just type in Bo Yarn in the search block under Fly Tying and your original comes up. No legs..
