If you happen by The Canadian Fly Fisher’s booth at the Toronto Sportsmen Show (on until Sunday March 22nd) check out Yoshi Aoki’s artwork. Yoshi is part of the dynamic Aoki brothers team – Naoto wrote about their trip across Canada in 14 days fishing on the go (the ultimate road trip) in the latest CFF – and if you think the written story is cool wait until you see the Fly Max episode on the trip. But getting back to Yoshi Aoki’s artwork ? he is as fine an artist with a paintbrush as he is with a fly rod (maybe even better). His art is as realistic as if you were looking at a photograph or right there on the water yourself – his work reminds me of Bob White’s work (Bob White illustrates many of John Gierach’s stories). If you get a chance to get one of Yoshi’s originals or prints, don’t hesitate. This is a young man with a lot of talent and should be in great demand in years to come. Yoshi will be at the CFF booth for several days over the Sportsmen Show – and if you take out a subscription to The Canadian Fly Fisher at the Show you will be entered into a draw for one of Yoshi?s paintings (which is on display in the CFF booth). But do check out Yoshi’s work – it’s unbelievably good.
