Yet Another Furled Leader Thread

I LOVE the thread furled leaders I use but one problem seems to happen on every thread furled leader I have tried regardless of the source. The Shorb loop seems to slip over time and it gets smaller & smaller making leader swapping a bit trickier.

Does anybody else experience this?

I resolved the problem the other day while fishing by working a little Loon UV Knot Sense into the Shorb knot and the actual loop and then curing the glue in the sun. I’m happy to report the results are great! The loop stays the same size and is easier to work with when swapping out leaders.

Bam,
I’ve been putting a small drop of ZaG or super glue on the shorb loops just after I make the leader. Seems to work well. I think you are on the right track.

Gorilla super glue works, now if I can only perfect my leaders.

Bamboozle;
Thanks for the report. I’ve never had anyone fish my leaders and hard as you have and was not aware of this problem so I will add the Loon “Knot Sense” to my furture Shorb Loops.
I’m glad you brought this up as I will be doing thread leaders at the Idaho Fish-In and want them to perform properly.
I fish Flourocarbon leaders hard and have not experianced this problem, I wonder if has something to do with the materials?
I may call them “Generation 3” as “Generation 2” was the addition of the tippet ring!!
Thanks again.

My tippet rings NEVER shrink

I agree with the rings;) Is the shorb slipping or is it furling? I don’t see how the shorb can shrink, but that is just me. I have had them twist over time which makes them appear to shrink, but I stick a bodkin in the loop and it is still the same size.
I do soooo prefer the rings!

You may be right, I can’t tell for sure but it kinda sees like the loop is closing up due to slippage. They don’t seem to open up as big after I fish them for awhile. Maybe I notice it more than some folks because I clean my fly lines after every outing and I take the leader off to do it.

In any case I applied Knot Sense to the whole loop and worked it into the thread and when cured the loop stays nice and pliable and is a breeze to get on and off.

BTW for those that may be confused by my original post - I am talking about the upper LINE loop not the tippet end of the leader. I am a dyed-in-the-wool fan of tippet rings so I don’t have any issues there.

My Bad I thought you were talking about the tippet end, but when it comes to the shorb loop, I haven’t noticed any slippage at either end.
I would like to send you one of mine to test drive. Pm me an address. Plus I will make it out of the Uni 4mm see what you think. it will be a 4 -6 weight 5 1/2’er.

Speaking of furled leaders. Thanks Betty HRH for teaching us to make furled leaders so much fun .
