I have read somewhere on here, where someone was using yarn from wal-mart for flies. I checked my local wally world and found cotton and acrylic yarns. I’m sure the cotton won’t work at least I assume it will get wet and be a mess, but what about the acrylic? Anyone ever tried it, and if so how did it work?
actually used the acryllic myself and it makes a great worm type of fly and if you untwist it and twist a single strand on the hook like in the beginners fly tying section of this website, it makes a great little midge or small damselfly body.
I’ve recently purchased a skein of Patton’s Allure yarn in what they call Emerald but I call olive. The yarn comes in two parts that must be separated. One half is short and felt-like. This may be usable for nymphs but I’ve discarded most of it. The second part is shiny and with many longer threads. I used this material in the recent featherless bugger swap. Worked great. 8T
