yarn for egg pattern

I am looking for a yarn that I can use inplace of egg yarn sold in stores. Is there a yarn that is suitable for tying egg patterns? If so where can I get it and what is it called. They have so many yarns on the market. Thanks for any help.

Jim

Jim,

I’ve tried just about every type of egg yarn that has come on the market! Didn’t like any of them till I tried “Egg Foo Yarn”. It’s by far, the easiest you can use! I got mine at Bass Pro, but I know I’ve seen it at other shops, too.

I haven’t tried the Egg-foo, but McFly Foam works very well. Regardless of the name, it isn’t foam. If you have rough hands it will want to stick them though.

I never realized there were significant differences in egg yarns. I’ve always thought tying eggs using yarn was fairly tricky maybe I ought to try out some of the yarns mentioned here.

Naw,once you figure out a couple of tricks eggs are pretty easy.Seems like I learned in one of the how to articles here on FAOL.

The egg foo yarn is almost braided, so the fuzz doesn’t come apart till you cut the yarn segments, then they poof out really full when you shape it! But then, I’m easily amused.

Well after reading what I posted I realized I did not make myself clear. Sorry about that it’s been a lousy year so far. My dog and best friend died Friday night. I can only assume he had a heart attack. He was 9. German Shephard/Malamute mix.
Anyway what I am looking for is a substitue for egg yarn that you can purchased in a fabric store. I know about the egg-foo and mcfly stuff. Guess I am just trying to be cheap.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim,
I’m sorry to hear about your buddy’s death. Was he also your partner?

I’ve not ever seen anything like Egg Foo yarn in the craft stores, at least since most of the macrame products went out of style. If yours has macrame stuff, there may be something that might work. The EFY is pretty reasonably priced, especially when there’s so little waste.

Sounds like a good reason to check out the craft stores … again!!
Betty

If you want macrame…thrift stores [used to be called 2nd hand stores]…frequently have things made out of it…as people clean out their houses.

edit

this one got printed twice

Also a huge fan of McFly Foam. Makes tying glo-bugs SOOOO easy!

Thanks Betty. No Kamatz was not a fishing partner. He was far to agressive for that. His main purpose was to protect the family. He would not bite you if I was there but noone entered my house or back yard if the family wasn’t home. He was a very loving dog and very protective of the family. Some kids had abuse him when he was a puppy, threw rocks and taunted him so he was not a people dog. Don’t get me wrong he was not vicious and if you came to the house several times you would be accepted and have no problems. Matter of a fact he would bug the heck out of you to scratch his rear. LOL He will be missed by me very much. He was 130 lbs and had white eyes that would cut through you.
