Tonight I guessed Vanna’s dress would be pink. I was wrong and my wife was right. It was blue. MAN, I need to get a life. I NEED to go fishing. I’m so tired of refrigerator weather, that if I don’t see a ground squirrel pretty soon I’m going to lose it big time. Buttercups would be nice to start with.
PLEASE show me some pics of Spring.
Thanks Ahead,
Sorry, I don’t have any pics, but the first daffodil bloomed in our yard Wednesday.
Spring is not far away.
Dont worry its coming, tie some flies or read a good book.
Joe,
Here is a nice spot that is south of you: http://www.flickr.com/photos/livingwilderness/160207750
What is the name of this stream? : Image:http://www.theeveninghatch.com/2005-Aug6.jpg
Here are some flies you can tie for eastern WA Lakes: Image:http://www.avidangler.com/images/FishCast/FC2/chrominidBox.jpg

Even the tulips want spring to get here.
Kerry,
Nice pic, Wish that was around my house!
Joe, I feel ya pain.
Most of you will see spring before i do, Snow and ice are here til mid April yet.
This winter hasn’t been a productive tying season, not compared to other winters anyway. I have learnt to tie Mono furled leaders though and read a couple great books. Right now I am reading Year of the Trout by Steve Raymond. It’s a very good book!!

Near 70 on Thursday … today it’s snowing like there’s no tomorrow!!
Joe -
Best I could do for signs of spring - but not bad for SE Idaho on February 28.
Maybe this pic from a couple days ago will also help.

Another funny thing. Liberty Lake is one of the early openers for fishing in Washington State. It opens tomorrow March 1st. I just came back from there about 1/2 an hour ago and it’s still frozen solid. Living in eastern Washington this year is like living in a refrigerator/freezer. I thought that global warming meant the globe was warming.
Phone Al Gore, thats his department. We are in the middle of the longest coldest winter for 40 years up here. It snowed this morning for gawd sakes! Usually the crocus are up all over the lawn by now but I can’t see the lawn. Seabarf is just one of the lumps of snow in the back yard. The only sign of spring so far is that Canadian tire has put out their display of BBQ"s and lawn furniture . They decided to put it out on a bright sunny warm day in their outdoor garden center just hours later the snow came blasting over the hill and covered it all with snow. Made my day for sure.
You need to strap some skis and a snow shovel on the roof of your vehicle, drive south till either someone says what are those darn things or someone says and what is your reason for visiting Mexico sir? When either of those things happens you will know that you have finally driven far enough. Stop there, put up a tent, take out the ole lawn chair and relax with a cold one.
Or you could drive over to Rocky Ford creek, go wading , it will get quite hot very soon after you step into the water. lol
I’m Just trying to help… Oh! Yeah here’s a picture of my big fish, caught on a really warm day on Stan Coffin. Jeff will attest to the size because he helped gaff it for me.
Lotech, hope this helps:
Or this:
How about this one:
Good Luck. The shack nasties have us all in their cold, cold grip…until there’s no more ice in the guides, I’ll just keep dreaming and tyin’ more flies.
Betty–
Okay, yeah, it’s snowing, but by Wed. it’ll be 70 again and stay there just long enough to get our hopes up before plunging yet again. It’ll repeat this until spring (a Thursday afternoon in early April) then the next day it will be ninety and that will last til fall (a Tuesday morning in October) when the whole thing freezes and starts the cycle over again. Haven’t you gotten used to Kansas yet?
Tim
Thanks Gnu Bee,
I needed that. Linda says “nice to hear from you again, and to see you with your trophy fish.”
Sharpen that gaff, we’re heading for Marshall Lake in June.
C’ya there,
Joe,
I floated the Yakima today. I can confirm it’s still cold out!

The robins are back from their winter vacation here but unfortunately we got another dash of snow yesterday. Ah but then the other day I went out in the yard to check on some bushes I have and noticed the buds beginning to swell.
I am a bit puzzled by some of the pics though…they show signs of early spring but nobody is fishing pike. Prime time for the big pike is early spring when the females are heavy with eggs and hungry as a bear in preparation for the spawn.
I thought that global warming meant the globe was warming. – lotech
well, the song sparrows began to wake me up every morning this week. the prettiest alarm you can imagine! that is earlier than it used to be. no–i mean the month, not the time of day.
on the other hand, the robins are not back yet–they always show up three days before the last big storm…
Hi Z,
You gotta tell me; How was the fishing?
We have robins here too, but they are the crazy breed. I think their internal compasses went haywire.
The green grass syndrome has always amazed me.
We’ve all heard variations on these familiar themes haven’t we?
“My favorite waters are all frozen”.
“There’s too much snow here” .
OMG I wish the weather would warm up a bit.
Surprisingly enough the person five or six states away is thinking to themselves,
“Boy, I sure wish that there were some ice fishing to be done round here”.
“Some winter trout stream fishing would be fun right about now”.
“OMG the weather is sooo hooottt”!
As for me ,well, I guess that all of the above would apply. Has nothing to do with the idea that today is the opener for trout in the control areas and didn’t make time to go. Nor the idea that there are a few ponds that are open ( cant really call it 'warm water fishing at this point) that I can get to through the snow.
Its kinda like mighty Casey said when he let the second pitch go by, earning him a second strike . That ain’t my style. Thereby putting Case into a might tenuous state
I’ll tend to sit around and gripe about the reasons why not rather than explore the options open at the time .
I know why that happens ,
just to myself anyway,
the grass is just a little bit greener over there .
