Wrapping Too Much or Too Little

When wrapping snake guides when are too few or too many wraps? I like the idea of as few as possible.

Greg,
I think that’s a personal call. Re-doing older bamboo, I like 3 wraps before I step up onto the guide. The older rods were pretty minimal in wraps. Of course there were those rods that had intermitten wraps every 1.5" too- but I don’t go there  .

talking to some more experienced rod builders - I’ve gotten that 5 wraps before the guide is plenty

It is not only plenty, IMO it is preferred not to make more than 5 or 6 wraps. More wraps before the guide tend to cause problems. If there is a desire to have longer wraps, make the initial guide wrap short and put a light coat of epoxy on it. Then go back, if desired, and put a separate wrap the other direction to extend your initial one. Again, this is just my opinion based on experience.
