Wouldn't it be nice.....

Wouldn’t it be nice, while you are shopping in a fly tackle store, BPS, Cabela’s, etc., if you could look across the store and see “FAOL” in bold large print on someone’s shirt, jacket or somewhere? I have read so many posts where someone states they would love to meet some of the FAOL members. There is a possibility that we could have been standing across the river from each other or in the same store but did not know that the other person belonged to FAOL. I know that if such a large patch existed, I would purchase one or more and attach them to a jacket, vest, etc. I am not recommending anything here and not asking for more from JC or LF. Maybe a patch could be offered if everyone joined “Friends of FAOL”. I know when I became a “Friends of FAOL” I got a really nice hat pin which I proudly wear on my fly fishing hat. I am just thinking out loud. What do you all think? Good thought or bad. Pros and cons.

Warren

a patch would be nice, but I think a t-shirt would be much less expensive to produce. Maybe even a nice sweatshirt, or windbreaker??

Warren;
I agree. I wore my pin to a recent Tying Expo and still missed Urses, Satchel, Troutbum, William Fiszgerald and who know’s who else. Rainbowchaser and Joe Sprys where the only ones I ran across!
I belonged to the Varmint Hunters Assoc, and they issued a nice embroidered iron on patch each year you re-uped.
A patch would be the way to go as jackets or shirts require too much inventory as you can’t afford to have them made one at a time.
The question would be “How many members would commit to purchasing them?”.
Would JC & LF allow us to have our own made?
Good post Warren!
bwagner you posted while I was typing so please don’t take offence at my inventory remark.

the idea soulds good, but this has been covered before to no avail, it was baseball caps then, but I have seen nothing further about those.

Mr. Hise…I’m alot harder to offend then my previous posts might lead you to believe. I agree on the inventory issue, I guess patches would only have to come in one size too, elimination yet another issue. Patches it is!!

I think patches would be great. Unless we get to the point where we look like tournament bass pros or Nascar drivers… My friend Kenny at T.U. refers to the former as “Patch- Testers”! If you don’t like my comments, sorry… I’ll see you in Sound Off…HAHAHAHAHA P.S. Sorry to hear the sad news Tyflier…

The Patches or the hats either way would be a great way of knowing if i indeed have passed by one of you on the water…

Tyflier,
I am sorry to hear things did not work out,I remember your post vividly on the SO board during that time,Just did not want to pry in asking if the two of you made it through the rough water intact.

Bill

tyflier, I did not see your S.O post on this subject, so I was unaware of your situation, I am sorry to hear this.

For what it’s worth - I’d for sure find a place for a patch. Got a gizzilion hats which all deserve to wear. Would be and is an honor to be associated with quality individuals. Let’er rip!

Live each day as if it were your last, some day you’ll be right!

There is a uniform place here and I am going to take my pin in and see what they can do with coming up with iron-on patches or sew-on in a size that can be seen at a reasonable distance. I do like the t-shirt/sweatshirt thought, but, if I have a fly fishing vest on, no one would see the shirt. That brings us back to the hat and/or shirt/vest patch. I would have no problem wearing a patch on the back of my vest or on the front of my hat. I will check this out here on this end and let you all know what I find out. I would have no problem purchasing several patches if we can keep the price down. I will get back now that I know there is some interest. Thanks for the input.

Warren

tyflier,

Thanks for reminding me. I will e-mail them tonight and not do anything until I hear from them on this.

Warren

I am for the hats.

As cheap as I am , I would still probably buy a FAOL Patch or Hat . If I had my druthers I’d go for the Patch .

It would also be nice to have our own FAOL brand of Dark Rum .

tyflier,

Just noticed JC has responded and I just received an e-mail from Deanna and have the permission. I will do the “leg work” on this end to see what I can get done and the costs. I am thinking 2 sizes of patches: one that a person can have sewn onto their own hat and another one larger that a person can have sewn onto their vest, sweatshirt, jacket, etc. The costs may blow the whole thing out of the water, but, one never knows til they try. I will not do anything until I have all the info and costs and have touched base with JC and LF first and then take it from there. I will keep you all posted on my findings. This is getting exciting!!!

Seems a great idea to me, a patch is cheap, easy to produce and keep stocks of coz there is no range of size, colours and so on. Also it can go on your hat, vest, bag, whatever. Even an easy item to post international, don’t forget us over the ditch!

I’m in.

We do not inherit the earth - we borrow it from our children.

Warren;
A member of our lodge does hat’s, shirts, etc. I’ll see it he can do a patch and get a price for comparrison. What lot sizes would/should we ask for? I’m thinling 4 doz. and up.

I belong to Iceshanty.com … an ice fishing group … its great to be on the ice and see a flag flying off a hut or shack and know theres somebody in there that you know or will know …I have met alot of great people in stores around the state wearing my iceshanty hat …I would like a hat and a large patch for my vest if this ever works out.

The more time I spend around people the more I like my dog.

I like the patch idea. Patches are larger than pins and more easily seen. The problem with hats is that FFers wear dif style hats and are used to wearing them. Anglers are often recognized by their hats when fishing. One problem with baseball caps is that of quality. Some are very nicely made while others are less than satisfactory. Frog’s Hair has a classy soft
material with a pre curved bill. Other caps remind me of the poor quality ones that little kids baseball teams wear. So if we also go with hats please go with ‘quality’ over price.

If you’re doing a ditigized thing with the FAOL logo, is there a chance of doing those iron-on patches we can use to make our own tees or sweats? I’ve done it with pictures and I know one of our local businesses made tees for a promo by scanning their logo then using the specialized paper from Office Max. Looked pretty good. Just a thought, for I’m much more inclined to wear a sweat or tee at the Great Waters, for example, that I would a cap. Too much hair. JGW

Glad to see JC & LF in approval !

Hope that when things are researched fully and if anyone gets a flow of availability of the patch/patches…that the details be posted…Watching with a lot of hope as to the out come of this thread…
