Order it fast! The cost will only go up in the future! It’s an investment in your childrens future! In 18 years, sell rod put both kids thru college!
The only problem, you are still going to be without a cane rod! Look for a used one??? Buy a used one now. Sell it in two years to pay for the QC! Brilliant!
The day the rod comes in, get a BIG box of her favorite chocolates. Might I recommend Godiva? Yes, they are expension. Yes, your rod is expensive. How can she be in a bad mood after eating a dark truffle with hazelnut. Or get a good bottle of red Merlot and a great steak.
Hmmm…merlot, steak, Godiva… I think I need to tell DH to buy another bamboo… LOL
“Silly guy; Cane rods are for girls!”
Has the tip of the rod drawn a line in the sand? Silly me…I wish all my rods where cane. What I wouldn’t give to have back the old Granger I sold to a friend back in 75’, I really had to have that slick new Phillipson Glass Rod.
LOL…actually, JC, he likes expensive cigars (a luxury when we go out camping). They’re more expensive than my wine and don’t last as long! But you’re right–guys aren’t THAT complicated. (I know…shhhhh…it’s a secret.)
I think I need to test out a really nice bamboo. I borrowed the cheap test case DH bought to refinish (turned out very nice), but it would be interesting to feel the difference.
Tyrone: Just do it…only kidding…in life we are all called apon to decide what we want and what we need…I find that we as adults are just like children…we want, we get, we get bored and want something new…or maybe that’s just me…as I continue the seasoning process(aging)I’m starting to try and not over buy…sometimes we sacrifice today for the good of everything else and then some day(when the finances are there) you buy it regardless the cost…just because you want it…
Other than that, pave the way over a period of time, build good will with the wife(treat her extra special alot)and six months from now it will all come together…
I am LMAO reading this thread. Just last night I was thinking the same thing. From time to time the wife mentions that “you seem to have more of those tube things in your hobby room”, and I find a way to divert discussion. As I have airplanes, making noise about spending money is a touchy thing. But she likes to go where we can take the planes for her wilderness running habit, and expenditures on airplanes gets generally approved.
Jim Hatch, I hear my old truck acting up, I may need to take it to the shop and have that whatever you called it checked out. I even have cash for that bill!! I have a beautiful bamboo builder in mind I would like to get on the build list with… What was that charity?
Jesus told a story of a man who was traveling when he found a field that contained a very valuable resource. The man went and sold everything else he had to buy the field.
Seriously ~~ if you have other high end rods sell them off and use the money to buy a bamboo rod.
When I was a kid I wanted a bike that cost a lot more than I could ever pay. But I wanted it bad enough to work for it. I cleaned out an auto garage after school. I mowed lawns. I collected aluminum cans. Eventually I had enough to buy the bike ~~ best bike I ever owned. If you want it bad enough you will find a way (staying within the bounds of the law).
Aw, just go buy it! She’s not a violent person, is she? Anything else you should be able to live with.
This can work too…“Gee Honey, buying this rod WAS pretty stupid & self centered, but I can’t undo it now. I guess I’m just a loser, and the luckiest guy alive to be married to such a beautiful, understanding, forgiving woman. I really don’t deserve you.” My wife, daughters, sisters, nieces, etc all LOVE a little self deprecating grovelling! I guess it makes us seem sensitive. Besides, if it doesn’t work, SOMEBODY on this site’ll let you camp in their back yard! You just may have to share the 'boo.
Mike
You can call me Mike & you can call me Mikey…Just remember that this site’s about sharing!
TyroneFly - Look at it this way…living under a bridge isn’t all that bad, especially if it’s on the AusAble or one of America’s other great trout streams. And besides, you can snuggle up to that fine cane pole everynight. You decide.
“you can snuggle up to that fine cane pole everynight” Ha ha, think of the advantages. That pole is flexible, always up for fishing, can’t change its mind about anything, has no opinion either way about the toilet seat issue, and is a one time monetary commitment. Sounds like a great relationship to me
Last night I told my wife I was going to sell the last of my medium format film cameras on ebay. She was thrilled as she has been wanting me to clear out that part of our closet that was being taken up by the cameras and accessories. I sort of mentioned that may be I’ll use the proceeds to buy a nice bamboo rod that I’ll borrow until the kids are old enough to appreciate and us it. She just gave me a look and then said we will talk about it after the stuff sells. YES - I am 1/2 way there!
Don’t try and pull the wool over her eyes, that bamboo rod will become hers in the divorce settlement!!!
There are plenty of makers out there selling rods for under $1000.00 Might wait a bit tot get it, but it’ll be orth it. There are blanks available in the $200-$300 range and for less than $100 you can buy the components to build it out. Mike Brooks sells complete kits for $550.00, everything from the blank to the thread to the finish. About the same price as a good graphite rod. Or you can burn a little plastic(Sell a graphite or two) and supplement the cost.
Pete
Yo Pete…I’m the master of my castle…ooh ohh I think I hear my wife pulling up…I better get off the throne, put away my crown, and start performin my serf duties…
