Winter Stonefly (Roos variation)

Playing around with a black caddis idea (hence the Goddard-like wing shape) and realized it’d make a passable winter stonefly. May have to integrate an indicator of some kind since I won’t see this past 15’.

hook - WFC Model 3 #16
thread - Danville 6/0 black
body - stripped quill black
wing - Congo Hair charcoal
hackle - black

I like that – both for winter stones and for spring gray caddis. Wondering if you could give a brief description of how you tied the wing? Looks like you tied the congo hair facing forward, over the hook eye, and then pulled it back over the thorax area and hackle? Is that correct? Did you tie it down behind the hackle or are you using some kind of cement?

John,

I used the same tying sequence on this Lime Sally; just trimmed the wing to a different shape.
