I think I’m going to spend this winter tying soft Irish Style Wet Flies and some Soft Hackles. How about y’all?
I start the winter tying for Casting for Recovery and Reel Recovery. Trying to use up the over stock of supplies I have.
Then go for some new patterns.
Rick
Rick,
I packaged up about 100 flies for one of the organization you mentioned in a previous message. However, I had to leave Michigan before I was able to mail them. Can you send the address out again please. I’ll also tie some more for them this winter. Thanks.
Soft hackle wets are always a good standby, I’ve caught different species of fish with them. In fact, when I come unto a stream or pond and don’t have a plan or idea as to what to use, I’ll usually tie on one of those wets and start from there. And I try to keep a supply of them on hand.
I usually start tying 50 to 100 each of my “go to” flies. Those are the handful I use 90% of the time.
99% will be midges, soft hackles, and comparadun Sulphurs or BWO’s.
I have already started with my “winter” tying even though it will be in the mid to high 90s all week:( Since 90% of my fishing is warmwater for Bluegill and LM bass, I will stock up on leeches some topwater for bass and then play around at the bench with some new materials I’m experimenting with.

The few that I‘ve tied have been very effective; stream trout in Montana haven’t seen too many of them apparently.

Very nice Scott.
Nice ties, Scott!
Scott, Have you tried them out over on the LOCHSA yet? I’m going to try and drive down that way this coming spring
unless the river is out of condition from run-off.
Crunchy
Not that river specifically, but similar water elsewhere and had pretty good luck on westslopes.

Scott
