Back in March of 2005 we received a letter from the State of Missouri indicating that a trial of full time, winter C&R, would be conducted in the Maramec Spring State Park. If the trial was successful, other State Parks would be opened for the winter C&R fishing (every day as opposed to the weekend open C&R fishing that’s allowed now). From everything we have heard, the experiment worked extremely well.
Has anyone heard yet if a decision has been made to keep the other parks open this year?
I have fished the winter C&R season for many years. It is the best time to go. It seems to have gotten more popular in the last few years. If you catch nice weather on a weekend it can be quite crowded. I can remember times, years ago, when I could fish with just a few other folks there and the fish were hungry
Betty,
I know that Bennett Springs does winter fishing. But, I’m not sure of what is coming for the other streams.I have never tried it but, from the people that I have talked to that have…I will go this year. They say its some of the best fishing in MO all year. With low crowds to boot.
Maybe I’ll see you there this winter.
Take care…
Rich
That’s the existing schedule, with the winter fishing on the weekends (which I might add is wonderful!), but I’m interested in if the decision has been made yet to keep the parks open EVERY day of the week, for C&R fishing, during the winters off season.
We fish the parks regularly during the weekend winter C&R, but would love to go more.
There have been entire weekends that the only footprints in the snow have been ours. It, is by far, the best of times to fish the parks. The fish, the water, the eagles, and us!
