Phil and i got out today and flogged the water into a froth, and came away with some nice fish. Phil shows off his secret egg patterns
VERY nice !!
MAN that evil Phil is graying in the beard!!
He’ll soon have as much white in his as I do.
Nice work men. I gotta get out next weekend. I was grounded this weekend doing chores I have been neglecting.
…looks like spring time to me.
Here are some pictures from my day of fishing. Air temps in upper 30’s. Water temp 34.1.
You gotta have some snow to make it look like winter.
WOW!! Luv the looks of that Brownie Jim!
yeah Evil Phil is getting a little long in the tooth for sure
Solid work, Jim. You’ve managed to capture the essence of Phil with that sucker spawn box of his. However, I have to admit to some disappointment as Phil is cracking a smile. Must have offered him a tin of long-cut wintergreen for that!
marty
magic dust flew into his eyes and euphoria took him over as he gazed into his little box of heaven
Out of curiosity, why do you guys call him “Evil Phil”? I’m guessing there is an interesting story behind this.
you have to go fishing with him, his forced marches into the underworld are famous. Phil’s battle cry is the good spot is just around the next bend, the only problem with it is the next good spot is 50 miles away!!!
He’s not really all that evil.
He’s just “misunderstood”
Or lost!
In my limited understanding of this topic, “evil” can be freely interchanged with “catches more fish than me”. And that, friends, is why I just call him “Phil.” !!!
I want it know that Grey is the beard is big time cool, at least that’s what my wife and kids tell me. So quit picking on us old guys.
Fantastic shots of the fish and the scenery. I could use a close up of that fly box though. Old guys with glasses of course can’t see as good as they use to.
Rick
And as I recall, we caught some pretty big bass that day. Walk it off solider! lol.
John, thanks for standing up for me. lol. I shaved the scruff, so the gray is gone…well most of it. lol.
Marty, that wasn’t a smile. I was just about to spit. lol.
Ed, the “Evil” thing came from a guy we fish with. We were on the Catt., steelhead fishing and I pulled a few fish out of spots were he hadn’t. He started calling me evil, after that. Then Jim followed suit because of the “forced marches”. lol.
Clay, that was funny! The box is pretty much sucker spawn…in every color under the sun. lol.
It’s been a few years now since I’ve been up there for Steelies. I used to spend extended periods of time in Buffalo for work (2-8 weeks at a time), and my free time was spent fishing (my co-workers from Texas thought I was crazy). I usually fished the Niagara in Whirlpool SP, the Catt, 18-mile creek (near North Evans), and 18-mile creek below Burt Dam (near Newfane). I also thew spinning gear on occasion at the inlet to the Niagara on the West side of Buffalo. I miss the fishing there.
So, what river are you guys fishing in the pics? Those are some nice fish!!!
we are fishing in the smaller erie tribs
