A while back I picked a patch of deer hair from a bin not really examining it’s quality very carefully. Since then, I noticed the hair has quite a large diameter compared to deer hair that I have bought recently.

Since others may want to know, deer grow hair longer as the fall and winter weather gets more severe. So hair harvested in the early part of the hunting season will be shorter overall with shorter tips and better for smaller flies. So ask for early season hair if you want hair for small comparaduns, for example.
