Wing material

I tied up a bunch of tent wing caddis using “Web wing” for the wings. It looks great … however, after a few hits the web wing material disintegrates. Has anyone used this material and had success with it, ie not falling apart? Does it help to burn the edges of the material? Thanks!

Well, That sucks!
After John Barr was praising it soo much I was going to get some but forgot.

I would suggest coating it with flexament, And if that doesn’t work you could test burning a piece of the wing. IF that doesn’t work then the material needs to be $#!$canned.

in an article in fly fisherman on tying the web wing caddis barr recomended to put a drop of super glue on the wing after the fly is finished

in step 9 on page 118 of Johns new book “Barr Flies” it states to “apply a bead of supreglue along the top of the web wing to bond it to the dubbing”. nowhere in the remainder of the instructions does it mention any treatment of the web wing.

you might want to try “tuff film fixative” like we spray of feathers.

Good point Norm, that’s the way I do it seems to work well

Thanks all!! I figured just cutting the wings was much too easy!

Would’nt it be nice if that was all there is to it?
