Feel free to stop by in the back of the Horticultural building this w/e (March 5-6) and say “Hi”. I will be showing kids and their families how to tie the “wooly” family of flies as part of a Boy Scout booth. I’ll be the big handsome guy their - if there is a big ugly guy there that’ll just be my brother-in-law :).
It that time for the outdoor show. we will be at the fly fishing show at the valley forge convention center. this weekend just look for the little fat guy with the FFOL hat. flyman 3

The way this was set-up. The tyers designed thier own flies. 1: the kids picked either their favoite color of yarn (Wooly Worm) or marabou (Wooly Bugger) then they picked their favorite color of hackle and their favorite chenille. These were all tied on #6 streamer hooks. It took from 10 min. to 25 min. to tie each fly.
First 2 are action shots of a couple of my young tyers (I ended up tying with 28 kids from ages 4 to 15 and one grandma as well). The 3rd shot are some flies I had previouly tied for display.
Does this bring back any memories of your first fly? One question I asked all who participated - “Did you have fun?”. Everyone said “YES” and with a big smile as well!
