My son just got a Wii Gamestation for Christmas. I am very impressed with it’s controller and the possibilities it could lend to our sport. Does anyone know if there is any way to get the company interested in creating a fly fishing game for it? They currently only have a bait casting version.
They could develop a fly fishing program. However, software companies won’t write and market new products unless projected sales would justify the cost in money and time. A fly fishing program would not sell here because most people use spinning rigs and bait casters. There may be a market elsewhere but not in Kansas.
Then there’s people like me that would rather go outdoors to fish and hunt instead of playing a video game.

Robert, I’ll be in Gwinn, Michigan with my seven year old son for a big fishing meet June 9 to June 13. We’re riding my Harley and camping out. It’s a seventeen hour ride but I’ll break up the trip into two days to make it easier on my boy. A few us fly fish so you’d be welcome to join us.
I try to get out to fish as often as I can, but during the winter month’s it would be a great way to keep practicing the casting skills. Maybe get a little exercise while I’m at it.
I have a Wii and I like it a lot; that being said, I’d much rather go outside and flyfish than sit inside and pretend to go flyfishing.
They should just make the game, color the disc dark green, slap a winston logo on it and sell it for $645. They probably wouldn’t have to sell that many copies to make their investment back.
Just an FYI, the Rapala game is supposedly dog doodoo. Rent it first.
So youve played it?

No. I said “supposedly”. My friend rented it and returned it the same day but before I could get over to see it. He said it felt terrible casting and you can only reel the line in at one speed, you can’t cahnge it up it at all.
I just wanted to mention it would be a good idea to rent before buying.
Here is a review of the game. It points out a few other things, but the two I mentioned are also noted in this.

This is all Nintendo needs is to tic off the flyfishers. One bad double haul and you could ruin your TV (note: there were a few news reports about the controllers slipping out of people’s hands and crashing through the TV) and cause one’s SWMBO to stop financing one’s pasttime.

I bet these guys will do it.
I have the real world fly fishing game from pishtech and it is a great way to spend time during the winter. I have also played the rapala game(for PS2) and it is pretty bad.

These guys are already considering a FF game for the Wii. I know they’d appreciate any feedback or encouragement they can get on the idea since it would be a considerable risk for an independent developer.
Has anyone bought any of the two?
I have flysim. I enjoy it, particularly when I can’t get out and go fishing for real. The developers are always working to improve it, however, I think they are probably currently focusing on developing flysim 2. There’s a demo available on their website, it only lets you catch one fish and the fish in the demo are pretty small, but you can get a pretty good idea what the game is like.
I downloaded the demo and tried the Firehole river. I’ve fished that river a hundred times at least (it’s not that far away from where I live. In fact that bank looks very familiar. I think it may be at the Firehole picnic pulloff past MuleShoe bend). I hooked something that seemed huge (totally NOT Firehole like) and after about 15 minutes I got bored trying to land it and quit the program. Is that even possible in the demo?
You must have downloaded the demo for the other game. Flysim has fictional rivers that are 3d rendered. The other game uses a sequence of still photographs from real places.
I downloaded “Real World Fly Fishing Demo Version” from

Now, they need to mix up the SIM cast alayzer with a video game. Get everything mixed up together and make a nice expensive video game. We could then sit around and talk about the e-fish we caught, which e fly we used, etc
The FF demographic is extremely small by comparison to a bass fishing target customer base. Game developers make a LOT of money. Hard to make these numbers work for a company like Nintendo. The indies are probably the only hope for a FF game for the Wii.
