Wanted to get a new tag for our new car yesterday and decided to save a trip and all the hassle and do like the DMV says and order it online. Halfway through the process a message flashes up, in big red letters, saying that it wasn’t possible to do that online cause we didn’t have plates already registered for the car. DUH!!!
Of course not, dummies; we just bought it and the dealership gave us the usual one month temporaries!
So, we had to go to the local DMV office; 50 mile round trip, sit there till your number was called, and it still takes six weeks, more or less, to receive the tags: so, then they give you a new set of temporary tags that’s good for two more months!
Apparently you can’t get online plates if you don’t already have plates on your vehicle. All we had was the temporary plates from the dealership. But, there’s nothing on the DMV website telling you that you can’t get plates online in this situation.
However, on the bright side. Didn’t have to worry about this one not being available. Got it on the first try.
Decided on a neat tag or so we think. Got the theme plate with the colorful brook trout on the left side and with the following personalized inscription next to the trout: TI14IT

Ran into somewhat the same thing here when trying to register my pontoon for the first time. Had to get well into the registration process to find out it had to be registered already.
Fortunatly it’s only 11 miles to the court house in Winchester.
Wow your bureaucracies have got ours beat 6 ways from sunday. Up here you only have to walk in to any insurance office, pay the fees and presto you are handed the tags.
As for toons you don’t have to register them at all. Boats are registered free.

I struggled for a while with it also. I think (and this is only my guess) that it means Tie One For It (TI - 1 - 4 - IT). My clue was his description of placing this next to the trout on the plate. OK GrnMtMan - let me know if I guessed right!
You are correct-a-mundo on the tag meaning and selected the correct clue. The vertical brook trout (my favorite quarry) on the left side of the tag.
“Tie one for it” = TI14IT
Ray & Eric-WD,
Wanted something a little unique that would fit the fly fishing theme plate and if you choose a theme plate it only allows six letter, numbers, etc. instead of the seven for plain plates. Tried to think of one that might read the same backwards and this is as close as I could get.
