White's Active Dun SBS

U.K. tyer Phillip White’s variation to Harrop’s Hairwing Dun; with an olive tail/abdomen it’d make a passable green drake.

hook - Dai Riki 300 #10
thread - Danville 6/0 yellow/olive
rib - tying thread
tail/abdomen - pheasant tail bleached
thorax - dubbing PMD
hackle - grizzly dyed olive
wing - woodduck flank

Part 1

mash barb, start thread (leave tag end long for rib), wrap to bend

measure (hook length) some pt fibers; tie in

wrap pt to 1/2 mark; tie off/trim

dub thread/dub thorax (leave about 1 eye width free in front for wing)

tie in hackle, wrap to rear of thorax

Part 2

rib thru abdomen and thorax; tie off/trim, trim hackle tip

prep woodduck flank (left the center section in this time; will trim out on next to see if there’s much difference in tying/appearance)

fold feather, measure (tips to bend), tie in; pull butts up, set angle with thread wraps

whip finish, SHHAN, trim butts, trim out hackle underneath

Scott
