The species we have here in CA is:

Genus Nectopsyche lahontanensis

They were first recorded on this water in 1977…the hatches aren’t as prolific as on the Firehole…however, the Trouties know about them:

I fished the Firehole each day for the period September 8th thru September 14th. I fished below Biscuit Basin in “The Braids” section. I looked at the patterns for the Miller White Caddis at Blue Ribbon Flies. John Juracheck tied me an X Caddis. I went to my cabin and tied an X Caddis with white CDC for the body. That was the fly which worked the best on the Firehole. Believe it or not, second best was a Crackleback fished wet…

Tied this this morning. It is not much more than Hans Weilemann’s CDC Elk with a shuck of Zelon.

By the way, I love that pic of the Firehole back in late 70’s. It is fully back now. I started there a little later than you - about 1980.

Hi,

Here’s one I use for white millers. Basically it’s an Invicta, but tied in white. The wing doesn’t show well on this one, but a typical quill slip wing should be in there.

Sorry guys, but this is what I think of when someone mentions a White Miller. Not the best tie, but it works.

The name "White Miller " has been used to describe the genus Nectopsyche, which is a caddis and the genus Ephoron, which is a mayfly…there are many patterns that imitate each…

Really liked your CDC & Elk; here’s an attempt at a modified, hackled X-Caddis:

I used white rabbit/pearl ice dub for the body since I’ve depleted my white cdc supply.

Try that pattern (sans hackle), with white Snowshoe Hare for the wing and it will NEVER sink…:wink:

I get my feet from Bob Marriott’s here in LA…they are supplied by this Mom and Pop operation… the quality is amazing…

SNOWSHOE WHITE MILLER … EGG LAYER…
HOOK: TMC 900 BL, #16-#18
THREAD: Gordon Griffith, 14/0, Olive
EGG SAC: Green Zelon, clipped short
ABDOMEN: 50% Arizona Diamond Hair, pearl Green / 25% White Antron / 25% SLF Prish, Pearl
WING: White Snowshoe Hair, Split
HEAD: Nature’s Spirit Emergence Dub, Tan, #42

Very simple and based on A Jim Schollmeyer design?this fly may be treated with WATERSHED, if desired?fish dead drift or swung and pulled under, at the end of the drift?
