white flipflops

Anyone have stores stocked with white flipflops. Went shopping tonight for some and came up completely empty. I need them for a swap. If you can find them, e-mail me and we can work a deal. Flies. Cash. Whatever. Thanks. JGW

What kind of flip flops are you getting if you swap the white ones to people? How many flip flops does each swapper get, will you put a toe-tag on the flip slops when you send them out, and will you get the swapmeister another pair of red flip flops for him or her?

Riverdancer --the man is looking for white flip flops I asume to be used in tying flies for a fly swap. Jim Hatch should have a good idea–I have found them at walmart but not the thicker models. BILL

White43,

My wife, VEE, just happens to have a couple dozen pairs of size 11 white flip flops. Along with tons of other foam for making dremel bugs. I’ll have her drop you an e-mail.

Hey JGW,

I feel your pain buddy. The Walmart sold out of them
over a month ago here.G I was recoving from knee
surgury and didn’t get there in time. I have only
one pair left and I gotta hang on to them. You might
try the Goodwill Stores. I scored well there last
fall when Target transferred their stock to them.
Or as Ron says, Ms Vicky might have a spare set.G
Warm regards, Jim

Thanks, REE. If VEE is willing just give me the ransom. My snail is Box 672, Clara City, MN, 56222. It’s posted in the swap board most of the time anyway. Thanks a million (well, I don’t need them THAT bad but it sounds cool). By the way, Jim, I think things are figured out. I’ve had the most frustrating time with this Dremel stuff, and finally went to JoAnn’s Fabrics determined to find the perfect needle. I had about seven different varieties of needles in hand when one of the workers stopped to ask what I was making. “Dremel bugs,” I said. She looked over the packages and said, “This one is what you need.” Stunned, I in turn asked, “So, do you make them, too?” “Nah,” she said, “just simple physics. What you want is long and strong.” I let it go at that, and incredibly, her advise was right on. It’s been a breeze ever since and once again I’m enjoying life!!! JGW

White43,

A pair of size 11 white flip flops (minus the toe strap thingies) will be headed your way on Tuesday (dang holidays).

My VEE, always on the alert for deals, saw white flip flops on sale during the spring for $1.50 a pair. Instead of buying those that fit, she bought all the size 11’s they had. More foam in an 11 than a 7. Caused quite a stir at the checkout stand.

Wait! Wait! You didn’t say what kind of needles you found that work! Who makes them? What are they called? Please don’t leave us hanging!

What Betty said!!

Hi White43; I saw a white flip flop floating down stream in the Kakahu Stream a while back. Did you lose one when you were last there? Jax

Good one, Jax! So nice to hear from you, and that you remembered our trip to NZ. One of the beauties of FAOL is this touch with the world. Now about the needles, what she recommended were Doll Needles by Dritz. On the back of the container it reads: Extra long needles with long eyes for doll making, soft sculpture (a Hatch bug, no doubt, is a sculpture!) and other crafts. She suggested that the long eyes would prevent slippage inside the Dremel shaft, and that the strength and length of the needle itself would keep the foam from flying off into the weeds. Perhaps an explanation: In Minnesota, with our short summers, you do whatever you can outside. Sculpting Hatch bugs from flip flops qualifies as an outdoor activity up here in the good ol’ summer time. As an aside, the other night while looking through odd and ends I came up with an old fly rod Hula Popper which was my muse for what I’ve been using in the swaps. While my shaping is backwards, meaning the original has a long and rounded back and mine has a shorter rounded back, the difference in weight is astonishing. I’m guess the Dremel popper is a fourth of the weight while the body has exactly the same width and length. JGW

Thank you! I hope JoAnns has a large stock of Doll Needles! They’ll need to, once word gets out!

Just a little FYI for those of you that cannot find white flip flops.
The craft stores have white foam marshmellows here in Ohio. They come in several sizes and work great for dremel bugs. The big ones make Great Saltwater Bluegill flies…just ask Mikey.

I picked up an old life vest the other day at the thrift store. Previously folks here had indicated they were a good source of blocks of foam. Whenever I checked them on the shelf all felt like there were layers [sheets] of foam…not a block. Well I decided to just see. Indeed there were layers of foam and they were…WHITE…but not as thick as a flip flop and I assume closed cell but more “foamy” looking.

Could be useful…and there’s a lot of it in one vest.

I was in Wal-Marts the other day and in the sewing/craft department they had numbers and letters in all colors made from very dense foam that I think would work great for poppers. They were 3/4" thick and about 5 to 6 inches square. You might check them out and see if they would work.

Not related to white but at the dollar store I just saw foam in the shape of regular tongue blades…multiple colors in a pack…e.g. gray=good for mouse fly…green and yellow=some frog patterns…etc…all kinds of colors you warm water guys would like.

Those white flip flops are on their way, there JGW.

Have fun.

Dear REE and VEE,
Got them this morning. Thanks so much. Loved the design on top and nearly thought about forsaking the intended use and purchasing a shadowbox! JGW
