the photo above is a william joseph “satchel”
my dumb question is: how do you wear it??
i know its slung over the shoulder, but does the large pocket shown go in the front or the back?? ive tried it both ways but neither feels right.

Not dumb at all. If you’ve tried it both ways and neither is comfortable. time to put it on the For Sale board and get something that IS comfortable. I hate it when something new or innovative is just not comfortable. I still like a vest.

Not sure, but I think this for a fly fisher with a hernia.
I would say the photo is done with up being up.
Usually I would say the zippers close in the down position but all manufacturers aren’t smart enough to do that.

The correct answer is both ways.
You keep the large pocket on your back while fishing so it is out of the way of your casting.
When you need something, you just pivot the large pocket to your chest and retrieve whatever you need.
Then pivot it back to your back to fish again.
I have one of these and have given up on fishing vests because of it.
The weight is still on your shoulder and it is less confining than a vest.
You can also wear it over anything. Heavy outer jackets or a t-shirt.
Hope this helps,
