Which blank?

Well I am getting ready to take the plunge and build my first rod. And I am having a hard time deciding on whether I want to build on the forcast blank or the IM6 blank from H&H.

I am planning to build a 3 weight for small streams and still water, and I don’t want an agressively fast rod. How fast is the forcast? How much different is it from the IM6?

I know lots of you are very saticfied with your forcast builds, and I am tempted - for the price - to build one of these first. But I want to have as much information as possible before I take the plunge.

I will be talking to Bob at H&H before I spend any money, but I wanted to hear what you all thought first.

Thanks folks,
Ed

i was emailing bob at h&h, going to purchase a kit also, and he told me this when i inquired

All the forecast and Im6 blanks we carry are now Batson. Next web site will indicate same.

I would go with the Forecast, especially on your first build. I love the things, especially in the lighter weights like you are looking at. I’ve built 4 weights for my wife, son, and 3 of my freinds that are all just getting started flyfising. The moderate action is wonderful, and the price is right. I prefer them in the 7’6" or 8’ lengths at the most. I can’t give you a comparison to the H&H line, but the action is moderate to mod/fast–not aggressively fast by anyone’s definition.

PastorEd;
I’ve built 3 Forcast rods. Very nice. May I sugggest a multi piece rod as they are easier to build (IMHO). My first rod was a 2 piece 9’ 3 wt. IM6 and I found it a litle awkward kept knocking things off the bench or getting it stuck in my fly tying stuff.

I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here!
