I guess I just don’t get it. I come here to read about fly fishing and maybe converse with some folks about it. What’s this “social networking” trend all about. I thought that’s what the site was for
I mean if I want to know about “something other” I’m gonna go to a site about that as I do about lawn tractors and dirt bikes and golf and whatever else I’m into at the time.
So I’m not the only one who wonders…I’ve got nothing against it, it just isn’t for me. I’ve got too much “community” in my life as is. I don’t relate to it.
Just in case your speaking about the Building Community Group… I do have a sneaking suspicion in this regard,
Of course if the community group is not someone’s bailiwick then thats cool…
Just like to share and here what others are up to, especiallywith regard to our youth so, in a nutshell that is what the community group is all about for me…
Spreading kindness… A good thing these days in my view…
I surely am not defending or justifying what I started, good things like the community group speaks for itself.
Let me just inform those inquiring minds that want to know, right herewith.
BBW you bet that is exactly what sound off is for,
Hope this makes some sense to you…
I participate in a few forums with different topics of interest to me other than FF, and they all have some sort of community area for social networking. When you get right down to it, FAOL is just a social networking site with an emphasis on fly fishing. We are all multi faceted people, and our other interests co-mingle with our fishing…Food & Fishing…Camping & Fishing…Drinking & Fishing…Photography & Fishing…etc. And let’s admit it, we are social beings who share more than our fishing interests with our fellow fly flingers, because we become friends and not just acquaitances.
I don’t have any problem with other social interactions on this site. We do have the choice to participate or not, so there’s not really any conflict with the mission of FAOL.

My sentiments as well. Ya’ don’t have to shop here if ya’ don’t wanta’.
AH… Those are fairly new BB additions called Social Groups.
FAOL is indeed a community site. It just happens to have TONS of reviews and tutorials etc.
Straight tutorials / articles are on the web site (which BTW) is about to get a facelift. (Something JC and I had been discussing for over a year before he died)
The BB is more free form. It is made for 2 reasons. Community and a way that ALL of the members can contribute to the promotion of your sport.
The BB has this Community forum, it has Personal Blogs, and it has Social Groups now too. It’s a way to let people have their own little special interest group areas. They actually AID in helping the Fly fishing content stay more in focus and on trac. It provides an outlet for those that wish to participate to do so without cluttering up your favorite forums.
You don’t have to read EVERYTHING on this site you know
Think of them as containers for stuff you don’t want to read, that don’t infect your favorite areas. The others that like them will think of them as a haven they can discuss things in without getting continually flamed and being told to stay on topic. EVERYONE WINS!
