Great Lakes region, NY, Mich,Wisc. Ontario(providence)etc.
and I would have to throw in Minn.

Native land to Smallmouth plus Walleye,Pike,Muskie,Crappie,Carp etc.

Oh yea almost forgot …then there is Trout,Lakers,Salmon & Steelhead too (grin)

Freshwater heaven…

I’d have to say Minnesota, because of all the water and variety of species they have. If we were including provinces, then I’d say Ontario and it’s not even a close contest for me. You can catch anything there and there’s sooooo much water to fish.

For me, it’s OHIO!!!..
A great variety of quality warmwater species & water types (lakes, ponds, streams/rivers) available, but most of all…
When I’m done fishing (IF they’re not with me), my wife, kids & grandkids all either live with me or are “huggin’ distance” away in Canton when I get home!!

Great Lakes States due to the huge variety
of waters and species. Michigan Would most likely be my first pick amongst them owing to the fact that it includes both upper and lower Michigan and has so much land boardering the Great Lakes. The fact that it had more land open to public recreation, more State and Federal public lands than any state east of the Mississippi as well as Minnesota even with it’s enormous Superior Natl. Forest doesn’t hurt either.

Of course, I have to say Vermont. I am surrounded by Lake Champlain so travel time is zilch. I would, however be glad to compare my current home water with everyone else’s. Give me a few years!

I thought they said Warm Water State? Minnestota?

My vote for warm water fly fishing goes to Florida, hands down, with Texas running a close second. Relatively warm all-year-round with huge, mean fish ready to cooperate. Heck, in Florida, you can catch fish in a rain puddle by the side of the road. That’s the fishest place I’ve ever been. I’d probaly re-locate there if I could.

Semper Fi!

Iowa. Because I live here now.

Texas. Because I lived there then.

Given our past history of agreement on many diverse issues, I have absolutely no doubt that we will reach consensus and decide on the single, best warmwater fishing state. Oh, and gas will drop to 38 cents a gallon in the next two weeks. 8T

BTW, my vote would be for Florida even though I live in South Carolina.

You had better learn to be a happy camper. You only get one try at this campground and it’s a real short camping season.

Danged Eight Thumbs,

I can’t believe a fellow Sandlapper
would give the nod to Florida. Not when
the world record red eared sunfish came out
of Lake Moultrie, and is subject to be
eclipsed any day now.G Maybe you should
come visit me for a day or two in a few
weeks when they turn on.G Bring your
3 weight. Warm regards, Jim

Well, I gotta ditto Gigmaster. Florida then Texas for the reasons Gig stated.
Robert

Florida & Texas ?

Sure for “salt water” but that is another forum. I took this as a “fresh water” forum seeing about two clicks down we have a salt water forum.

Having lived in Texas a couple years the best fishing was in the gulf. Inland it was mostly snake invested ponds.
Florida is the salt water king if you don’t mind crowds. But, fresh water ? It drops off quick after bucket mouths.

It’s surely the Great Lakes, I would not live only 45 minutes from “one of the ponds” and put up with the winters if the fresh water fishing was not top shelf. Just lots more water in the region, be it lakes, rivers, creeks, etc. The further south I go the longer the drive is to what they “call a river” and lakes are spoty.

It’s probably not Nebraska, but that’s where I live and love to fish!!!

Jim,

I do feel like a bit of a traitor. South Carolina does have great fishing, absolutely no question about it. Especially in view of your legendary red ear sunfish. I may give you a chance to convert me to your way of thinking later in the spring or early summer. If you throw in a Dremel lesson, its a deal. 8T

Hey 8T,

Your on buddy, even though your monikor
gives me cause for concern.G Warm regards, Jim

Wisconsin, hands down. Michigan second. The opportunity is mind boggling. I live an hour drive or less from good water for smallmouth, largemouth, walleye, pike, perch, rock bass, crappie, bluegill, carp, musky, white bass, catfish, gar, sauger and then there’s the whole sorted trout and salmon thing. Just this evening I was fishing walleyes on the fly and landed a legal one (28" this time of year here, it’s a trophy fisheree) and a few casts later a nice brown trout. Does it get any better than that?

I am with anglerdave. Iowa becasue the two of are here along with a few other fanatics.

Rick

Texas cause there aint nutin else…
